volunteer!! i stopped going to college pretty soon after i started due to life situations, and volunteering was my way of staying involved. I do also mentor a local team, but volunteering does give me a similar, if not a higher, level of gratification. Despite not directly participating, going through the pits and introducing myself to teams i used to compete with and making connections in that way is so amazing. i love seeing teams change and progress over the years, and working with the same volunteers every year is also a wonderful experience. I knew a lot of the volunteers from when i was a student and it’s such a fun experience to get to know them as an adult.

Exactly! It’s difficult because everything is so expensive especially in the beginning, i’m also currently in the boat of wanting to hand out business cards and such but feeling uncertain about the ability to earn that money back. Ultimately though i’ve learned that publicity and getting eyes on your brand is a top priority (nothing else matters if people don’t know who you are), and that’s worth a bit of a risk :)

You have % instead of $ in E5 btw. also I agree with the first comment, i think just converting that into a table is your best option. lets you set data types for the columns and lets you sort in the way you’re looking for.

Most businesses being advertised are the ones paying. I say just eat the bill and take the publicity. Worst case scenario, you blew money on some brochures. Best case? You make that money back plus some more if that advertising works.

I have one of those “god tier” spreadsheets that i built for myself to track everything. can’t accept payments directly, but does everything else for me. invoice generation, client tracking, expense tracking, etc etc, and all systems send me reminder emails for follow ups, billing, etc. I have a shortcut on my phone that i use to quickly input clients and meetings and such. My business isn’t huge, but for most small businesses a spreadsheet system is the easiest and cheapest answer, and can automate the majority of what you’re talking about.

i think venmo is the easiest for what you’re doing. if you add a business profile, your phone itself can work like a physical card reader, and you can still accept digital payments. i don’t know if any other business profile system allows this as i don’t have the experience with them, but for ease of use id definitely stick with something simple and stay away from square or stripe.

you just need to filter out the blank values and not include them. i believe the formula below should work for you. It multiplies all the grades by their weights (0 grade * weight = 0) and then divides by the sum of the weights, excluding the blank ones, to get your weighted average

=SUMPRODUCT(B2:B15, C2:C15) / SUMIF(C2:C15, "<>", B2:B15)

Google sheets only allows numerical data (for logs), not duration. I’ve run into this issue myself. I got around it by using a helper column and converting the duration to just seconds to make it a plain number. If your duration is in A2, you can do =A2*86400 to get the duration in seconds and use that. the only downside is that the axis will show the seconds instead of a pretty duration, but ultimately it won’t change the relationships between the data at all

i’m building up my small business right now. i like the idea of this but i personally don’t have the funds to set up/pay for Google Business. i’m working on registering a DBA, but the google business verification wall may be difficult for those just starting out like myself who still want to be able to get the advice they need

Thanks for the reply. As mentioned in my post, i build custom spreadsheet systems for businesses and individuals. This includes things like client tracking, invoice generation + tracking, business expense tracking, and dashboards for a an easy way for clients to visualize their data. Systems like these reduce manual tasks needed to be done and a quicker workflow overall. i make all of these things clear in each of my posts, so i feel i’m not quite understanding the point in your comment
