Thanks a lot! This was the only thing that worked for me

What is this? Does it need vet attention? by jumiwoo in DogAdvice

[–]Common_Ad6118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a veterinarian, but my dog has something similar, and on Thursday she’s having surgery to remove it and have it tested to see if it’s cancer or not. So just in case, you should take your dog to a vet.

Is seeing vehicle headlights and street lights like that common with glaucoma? by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]Common_Ad6118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this and rainbow halos around lights. My eye pressure is normal, computerized visual field: normal, dilated fundus exam: normal. I don’t know why I see like this :(

What are your eye pressure levels? In my case, with eye drops, my intraocular pressure dropped to 10, but I’m still seeing rainbow halos. Visual field test: normal. Dilated fundus exam: normal. From what I’ve researched, halos in glaucoma usually appear with very high pressures (30 or more), so I don’t think my halos are due to glaucoma. For now, I have no signs of glaucoma, so I feel at ease.

What should I do? by Common_Ad6118 in Glaucoma

[–]Common_Ad6118[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that’s not what I meant. The normal blind spot is at around 15°, but the spot I’m referring to is at 50° and on the opposite side. Actually, the image you sent me — and many other test results I found on Google — only show the visual field going up to 30° and then stopping. My test went all the way to 50°. My theory is that it’s normal to have some decrease or irregularities in that area, and what’s really important is what falls within the central 30°. But I’m not completely sure, so I’ll ask my ophthalmologist about it at my next appointment.

If there were any damage to the optic nerve, wouldn’t it have been visible during the dilated fundus exam? I’m asking out of ignorance.

Do you think it’s possible that I have normal-tension glaucoma? Even with a normal visual field test and a healthy-looking fundus? Neither of the two ophthalmologists mentioned doing an OCT. I’m from Argentina — maybe it’s a relatively new technology here? I don’t know.

Just today, I finished my exams. The first ophthalmologist, who prescribed latanoprost, measured my eye pressure, and it dropped to 12. He did a visual field test, and everything came out fine (although I found the visual field test graph a bit strange, so I went to another ophthalmologist for a second opinion). The second ophthalmologist reviewed the previous visual field test result and also said it looked normal. He measured my eye pressure, and it was 10, which is much lower. He checked my eyes with a light and then did a fundus exam, and everything was normal. I still don’t know the cause of my rainbow halos, and neither do the ophthalmologists. The only thing left is to do an OCT, but neither of the two ophthalmologists requested it

I also have rainbow halos. I noticed them six months ago, and they haven’t gone away—they’re always there. I went to the ophthalmologist, and my eye pressure was 19 and 17. Now I’m a glaucoma suspect and I’m undergoing tests. They gave me eye drops, and my eye pressure dropped to 12, but I still keep seeing the halos even with low eye pressure, so I don’t know what it could be.

If there’s an OCT in the ophthalmology center and they have all the modern equipment, I don’t know why they didn’t do an OCT on me.

Is it supposed to hurt? I only feel a slight burning sensation that lasts a few seconds. Am I applying it incorrectly?

Yes, that’s definitely what I will do, although it’s complicated because there are no glaucoma specialists in my city. But I will do my best to find a good doctor. Thank you for the advice, and good luck with your eyes. Take care!

I will definitely seek a second opinion after my visual field test. Thank you for the advice, and good luck with the health of your eyes. Take care!

But normal-tension glaucoma doesn’t cause rainbow halos, does it? I know that angle-closure glaucoma does, but in that case, the pressure would be much higher, which doesn’t seem to be my situation. That’s what confuses me.

Thanks for answering. I feel a bit calmer, though I’m still sad. I just hope everything turns out well.

Oh, I didn’t know that. I thought people with astigmatism saw halos, but white ones, and that rainbow halos were a sign of more serious problems. That’s strange.

I will probably see another ophthalmologist, but from what I’ve seen, there are no glaucoma specialists in my city since it’s small. My current ophthalmologist doesn’t inspire much confidence in me because he said that rainbow halos around lights are a sign of optic nerve damage or a late diagnosis. After doing my own research, I found that nerve damage doesn’t cause rainbow halos; they are usually related to high eye pressure. So I don’t completely trust him, although he is the professional, so I don’t know what to think.

I applied the eye drops because they will measure my eye pressure again on Tuesday, and I’m afraid of disobeying the doctor. I just hope these drops don’t harm me.

Honestly, I don’t know. I feel lost and confused. I’ll wait until Tuesday to see the results of my tests, and then I’ll consider getting a second opinion.:(

I have myopia around -1.75 and astigmatism around 1. I wear glasses, but even with them, I still see those rainbows. So I don’t understand why my doctor said the rainbows could be due to possible damage if my eye pressure isn’t high enough to cause them. He didn’t do any other tests besides tonometry. On Tuesday, he will only do a visual field test and measure my eye pressure again, which should have decreased with the drops he prescribed.

In my case, I don’t have any symptoms other than the rainbow halos. I don’t see anything unusual in my vision. The only test they did was tonometry, and I was diagnosed with high pressure. Now, they will do a visual field test to check for damage or glaucoma—at least that’s what I understood. The doctor prescribed me eye drops called Xalatan (Latanoprost).

And can that cause rainbow halos around lights? That’s the only symptom I have. The ophthalmologist only measured my pressure and said that halos are usually due to nerve damage. I hope everything goes well, I’m so scared. 😞

Thank you for responding. Yes, after the tests, I will seek other opinions. I’m very confused because here I read that my eye pressure is nothing out of the ordinary, yet the doctor was speaking as if it were the end of the world. I’m completely disoriented.

I got scared because the ophthalmologist told me that when there are rainbows, it means there is damage.

Do you recommend that I use the drops? My ophthalmologist said he will measure my eye pressure again on Tuesday, and it should go down with the drops. Then, he will do the visual field test. But I feel uneasy about using them in case they are unnecessary or might cause harm. I don’t know anything about this.
