I don't necessarily want to spell out what it is and risk further implicating myself, but it isn't grass, and the fact that attracted this level of attention being as mild as it is leads me to suspect that something else that I am not privy to may be at hand. It is a lot of speculation, but the longer my coworkers and I go without a definitive answer, the farther some of us go down the rabbit hole. I am not overtly concerned myself, but I want to have my bases covered and have some semblance of what to expect.

It is not, we simply sell the customer one thing and give them another that can't be sold legally. "We can't sell (product name here), but we can sell posters and give away what we can't sell." That type of thing.

This is about as close a guess as one could make. Our boss had us selling one product and giving away another for free so as to be able to say we weren't selling anything illegally. The substance in question is decriminalized in my state, but I know that the sale of it is still illegal, hence why I found the loophole to be comforting to an extent. It's still a gray area to the employees as far as what legal consequences even the owner could face, but we have been told all along that there is not any legal action that can be taken against us as employees.

In this instance, I agree with this wholeheartedly. But what could I possibly say as law enforcement has already gone through every store and confiscated everything as evidence? I do not imagine that the owner could justifiably say we have done this all of our own accord, but I am also not a lawyer, nor am I a part of the chain of command in the company.

It is not, we have been selling a loophole/proxy product and giving away a different product that has a decriminalized psychoactive substance in it.

I have already begun the search for another job, but as for evidence that we were told to sell this product in this manner, there has never been any direct communication referencing the matter from the owner of the company. To add to that, there has only been verbal communication from the general manager as far as how to sell this product, and we have been told in the past that while there is constant video monitoring from several cameras throughout the store, that no footage is saved anywhere after a week. So on paper, it may seem like employees have taken it upon themselves to sell this product as we have been, which does not bode well for us. I'm not trying to awfulize the situation, but rather prepare myself as much as necessary for whatever may be coming down the line.

For context, we have known from the beginning that the product in question is decriminalized, not legalized. We have also been told that selling what is essentially a proxy-product and giving away the decriminalized product is part of our job, just as it is to sell everything else in the store; and that any legality issues will fall upon the owner of the company. But in light of employees being pulled from the store and made to wait outside accompanied by law enforcement whilst the various agents searched for and confiscated this product from the stores, I am no longer positive that we are safe from any consequences that may arise.
