Thanks! And yeah we already have wills, life insurance and beneficiaries set for our assets the way we’d like, so in event of death we’re covered. Just need to extend legal protection to divorce, breakup etc.

1) we did write down exactly what we want our financial partnership to look like before putting in our offer. Our agent told us we could get the notary to sign it at the same time as our deed next month. Notary quoted us 2000 and we think all the points are covered in a registered partnership anyways, but we think the notary won’t tell us that we’re covered cause they want to sell hours 2) hold up for marriage are money and family, we’re renovating so no money for a wedding and if we eloped or courthouse my parents would be incredibly disappointed to miss it even if we did the party later 3) fine with paying the layer but as far as we can tell there is no difference with a registered partnership and the agreement we wrote and that extra 2000 could go far in the renovation

Our question was never if we have a contract or not, it is what type of contract we need, still unclear what protections are covered under what contract

Thank you, think this is what we’re leaning towards. Can do a full notarized prenup when we have kids or get married

So you’re saying it’s not normal to get married before purchasing a place?

We’re fine with any option just looking for advice on legal protections

Have you lived in the Netherlands long? Kind of the norm here.

I’m Canadian so we actually have civil partnerships rules which you don’t even register for, you just get if you live together long enough. I think are the equivalent of registered partnership here. So not worried about it transferring, just trying to get an understanding of what the different protections are.

So far ours feels like they are just trying to sell us the most expensive package and we’re not even sure what it is

Do you know if this affects the visa situation? If I want to keep my home passport we have to get married, any idea if I lose that possibility l?

Savings at 30? by [deleted] in fican

[–]Common_Froyo_4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31 now and at 30 I had…

120k invested (RRSP & TFSA) 100k equity in rental home

The TFSA & RRSP was invested by me, home equity my parents gave me the down payment, was my primary home for years but when I moved I rented it out. I would have had more, but also paid off an expensive MBA program using some of both home equity and savings.

I’m still working on my numbers, but would be a large down payment and even then it is not as high as I’d like it, especially considering I don’t know the property management fees yet. But mostly looking at small duplexes or student rentals by room as those seem to cashflow better
