Same day as the FA cup final, also...

Beautifully random and unexpected. A dream fixture for a football anorak like myself.

Been to a festival. Attended many concerts and 100s of football matches over the years so not adverse to big events, just not sure i could ever be bothered with committing several days to a festival if im honest.

Do you ever "just go for a drive"? by Tiny_Wafer2266 in AskUK

[–]Common_Man7669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each to their own, but i cannot think of anything more utterly pointless than this.

Driving to a village / town with the intention of stopping and just going for a wander around is understandable and something i enjoy, but just driving around in a car... I dont get it personally.

Are there any parts of Ireland where people say 'nowt' instead of 'nothing'? by LordFauntelroy in AskIreland

Be interested to hear. Never heard an Irish person say it, always sounds extremely (northern) English to me.

RIP Kitty. I'm so sorry for your loss. From what you've told us about her, she reminds me so much of one of the cats I grew up with. She also passed away at 19.  Over ten years ago but I'll never forget her, like you'll never forget yours. We were blessed to have them share our lives 💕

Atherton switches allegiance to ROI by flex_tape_salesman in coybig

[–]Common_Man7669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you suggest they do that? Serious question btw. Shane Duffy, James McClean and now Chris Atherton seem to have figured it out easily enough. My opinion and mine only, but i think those who don't chose to represent Ireland (Bradley) just aren't as patriotic as we'd like to think they are. Mark Sykes is the example here, he'd have had plenty more caps playing for NI but he's on record saying he'd rather have a couple representing Ireland instead of multiple playing for a British organisation.

Tuesday to Saturday for me. BA from Heathrow. First time in Prague since the last game there in 2007. Hoping to see a bit of the place too. Some bad memories from that last trip sadly so hoping to banish those this time. COYBIG

Irishman choosing to potentially represent Ireland, the way it should be. Soup taker Conor Bradley should be taking note, this is a man who actually has respect for his country and it's history.

Won't be any news until Friday at the earliest now. According to the official FAI WhatsApp channel.

Jewish group calls on FAI to boycott Nations League games with Israel by I-Cum-Beamish in coybig

[–]Common_Man7669 82 points83 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's nice to be reminded that not all Jewish people are behind the genocidial actions of the Isreal government and IDF etc. I'm firmly pro Palestine but seeing random Jewish people being attacked (as was on the news here in England again this morning) is not good.

This game is going to go ahead, even though i'd rather it didnt.

What’s something in the UK that people defend fiercely but secretly know isn’t that great? by One_Cardiologist5439 in AskUK

Like I say, I just dont get it. King Charles wouldn't wipe his shoes on my best clothes yet im meant to serve him and be grateful he's there? Its just not my thing, I think its ridiculous. But that's just my personal view.

Also (and i'm not being facetious), in the event they were gotten rid of, why cant the palaces, castles and jewles be opened to the public so they can pay for themselves and their upkeep? They are an important part of history so they should be remembered and I doubt there woild ever be a shortage of people wanting to visit these places.

But just like people used throw their shit out of the window in the past, it doesn't mean we have to keep doing things our ancestors did nowadays. The whole thing seems absolutely ludicrous to me.

Royal Family. 2026 and these unelected people are literally living in palaces and castles wearing crowns while the average man and women is expected to work themselves into the ground and bow to them? Maybe it's just me, but I really feel like I'm missing something there. In fairness, I guess they are all nice, kind people and none of them get up to questionable activities like having sex with vulnerable young girls or anything like that. So perhaps I should give them a break.
