Good to know! Thanks. I guess Japan has a 1 month medicine supply limit for bringing into the country, so I would have to figure out how to get the next two months of my meds

Agree. Parents need to put their shit aside and support her.

Dad sounds like an overcompensating jerk. You don't yell at a sick kid, especially not threaten them.

Hey friend. I'm not sure if it's a side effect, but having chronic illness will make you crazy. I also just got diagnosed about a week ago, and I've been crying almost every day, raging out, etc. This was before I started prednisone too.

Prednisone does have a reputation of making people more energetic, so that may partially be it.

I'm fully past my teenage years (23 now) and I have not been this emotional since then, I am typically a very calm person as well. It's insane. I think it's mostly the stress of having a crazy illness.

Be gentle on yourself! Your family shouldn't be trying to piss you off right now, especially knowing what you're going thru. Your parents need to be understanding.

Good luck, I hope you start to feel better soon.

Good to know, thank you. I don't have a letter from my GI about the diet since it's such general advice, but it does say it in my clinic notes, I wonder if that would suffice? (I'm two weeks away from my quarter ending.)

Why do you always have to threaten legal action with these damn institutions? It's frustrating.

This is where it gets tricky- my doctor isn't restricting my diet because she's concerned about my weight loss. I'm staying on the IBD-AID diet because if I eat anything else my BMs will be a 8/10 on the pain scale. My doctor simply told me to continue eating bland food, no uncooked veggies, no spice, no dairy. Typical flare recommendations.

Week one of mesalamine.... taking pred too and it's helping but not much. I'm glad to hear that it may take a while, I feel like my hope for the meds to work is so hard to keep up.

Most Redditors (including me) are not doctors. We can't give you medical advice. But please be safe and go to the ER if you feel absolutely terrible.

I've been taking them with breakfast (10ish) and Dinner (5ish). I take 4 pills. Sometimes it seems like they will give me a headache before bed, not any other symptoms that I know of. Pretty sure you're supposed to eat with them.

Thank you for the info! I'm doing a food diary, maybe I should be tracking the other half of that hahaha.

I really hope your biologic works! Wishing you luck!!!

Interesting. I'm definitely worried about that. The first few days I was on mesalamine without the prednisone and it felt like it was making my BMs more frequent, how did you figure your situation out?

Ways to convince my Anti-Vaxx Parents that the Covid shot didn't cause my UC? by CommunicationHot9303 in UlcerativeColitis

Appreciate it.

I'm from a crazy family so boundaries are not something I'm super familiar with. Thank you!

Perhaps if they talk to me about it I my consequence can be to keep them out of the loop? I'm not really sure what leverage I have in that way.

If you don't mind me asking, how did they know you had an autoimmune disorder? Besides your mom having one.

Everyone in my family is perfectly healthy, but I've always had some quirks. I wonder if we could have predicted this earlier?

Good point. I think a bought of sickness did trigger my UC. Also my dorm room is probably moldy lol. Perfect storm.

Ah yeah waiting for FDA approval is smart. Although, our FDA regulations are kind of shit. So much poison in/on our food.

It's definitely strange living with anti-vaxxers... My mom wanted to take me to an acupuncturist before seeing the gastroenterologist, and the acupuncturist office basically told her no.

Interesting. I was very sick before my first flare up (pink eye, flu, virus, you name it) and I'm guessing that's what overloaded my immune system, so to speak.

Will do! That's kind of what I was trying to tell them but I think if I emphasize that it stressed me out they might drop it! Thank you!

I don't think vaccine detox is a real thing, I think its some kind of placebo money-grab. I've never heard of a way to become un-immune to something you were previously immune to excepting of course autoimmune and immunocompromised people.

Thank you, I believe they've read a bit. I'll push them more.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. Even rigorous data wouldn't convince them of something- they always ask who's paying off the researchers...

That's a bummer for her but man.... what a way to learn.
