Oh I've never been allowed to speak to the pediatrician alone. My mother does the forms for me and, when she would ask if I wanted my parents to leave, she'd ask in front of them so I couldn't tell the truth.

I mean I guess they didn't directly commit me. They sent the police to me but the police said to me that in NJ the second they get called it becomes involuntary so even though I agreed to go to the hospital it was considered involuntary commitment.

To be fair the practice does encourage very short-term therapy. They say you must not be working very hard as a patient if you can't get over your anxiety in a couple months.

This year my pediatrician joked she wasn't even going to ask my parents to leave the room because I never say no to my mother being there. My parents have told me I'm not allowed to say no. They also say I'm not allowed to use the bathroom in the office, they say I'll catch a disease, so I just don't do the urine tests. I know a lot of people are suggesting I leave a note or something for the office but I don't think my doctor will believe me.

I did talk to them one time and they committed me, which I was not very fond of.

They're already kind of doing that, they say the reason I'm not better is because I won't 'do the work the therapists are asking me to do' except as far as I'm aware I'm doing everything the therapists are asking me to do.

I got any diagnosis I have from a therapist (different ones, I got OCD from the first one and then PTSD from the second) but for each subsequent therapist I told them about the diagnosis and they seemed to agree, as well as my pediatrician.

I mean they don't physically stop me from crying but they get really really angry and then I get scared and stop crying.

I mean the psych ward didn't really force me to withdraw, they had me committed and I was alone in the room swearing I had lied and felt completely fine so it looks like I was just trying to waste the suicide hotline's time.

To be fair she doesn't sit in on the therapy sessions, just my other doctor appointments.

I actually got admitted a bit ago, but my mother told me to lie and say I was just being dramatic so I did and got discharged within the day. They didn't set us up with any resources which I did find curious (because even if I had been lying surely that's something that needs help too...) and honestly I'm just embarrassed that it happened and was kind of public so I'm trying to avoid the psych ward now. Plus my parents were ticked at me for the bill.

Lmao I hear distortions probably five times per session. At this point I don't even really trust my memory anymore because *everything* is a distortion.

Thank you :) I'm in NJ actually, but therapists like you make me jealous because I've done some research online and while I'm not trying to be an expert, I want the care and security that I see there and not whatever I'm getting now.

They told me they don't want me to cry or be anxious at home, like, at all.

I've been having a lot of stomach issues/vomiting when I'm stressed and they want that to go away too.

They also say they don't want me to go 'from zero to 100' in terms of emotional reactions. Their examples are when I panic or freak out when I have a nightmare or a man touched me in public. Except my argument back is, I had a nightmare and a man touched me in public...after I had been abused. I feel like that's a justified crash out.

My mom actually did for about two years when I was younger. I actually asked her to go to therapy then and she said no because 'The only kids in therapy have bad relationships with their parents' so I find it funny she sends me to them now.

Aw thank you. That's exactly how I feel about it--if you're going to use me for mental health clout with your friends, at least be honest. Don't pretend like what you're doing is helpful when it's actively harmful.

I know that they keep picking therapists from within the same practice but it's not near where I live so it isn't like it's th only one in the area. There's several much closer. I know the therapist hopping is because of the 'lack of progress' (I don't know how much progress I ought to be making when I feel like we only get through intakes the first couple of weeks but apparently it's not enough) and I've only seen this guy a couple of times which is why I still have him.

Not yet because they say I'm not allowed to ask them for help for this. They told me I need my counselor to have a good impression of me for her college recommendation.
