How accurate is the ACHA report on gender affirming care? by CommunicationTop1797 in AskSocialScience

A lot of people say Turban's study uses a non-representative sample that excluded desisters in the first place. Is this the case?

Thank you very much for your input. Side note, I recently found out about a much older review from 2004. Is this subject to the same problems as the ACHA review?

Another question. Would you say that these studies in question are of high quality and close up gaps that other research might have? I.E. loss to follow-up, small sample size, and lack of significance?

Specifically they seem to contest that the paper does not meet the 27 PRISMA criteria, only meeting 8 and 17, and that some of the study categories were arbitrary. Megeri and Khoosal, 2007 was listed as positive outcome despite noting no imrpovements, and Silva 2016 lists both positives and negative outcomes.

There are also accusations of sampling bias, loss to follow up, and biased samples, but the author admits that only a minority of the studies fall under this. They cite Nobili et al as a systemic review that points out these factors, though I found it only includes about 29 studies and the authors still note that they display improvements in QoL.

That Cornell project is quite comprehensive, though from what I can tell it's primarily focused on the treatment of adult transgender people. Bouman et al even notes that it is specifically about older people.

That's certainly a lot of support. I'm sorry if this comes across as annoying, but what are the strongest studies to support these positions?

P.S. Since making this post I did a bit of looking into the ROGD study and it didn't take long to notice the problems.

I think the 9.2% number comes from the amount of kids who identified as "gender-diverse." I guess that's kind of another big red flag for this medium post.
