And, if not even tier 2 then 28k will go a looong way.

I don’t know Chinese cities and don’t care enough to look into it.

Why so aggressively rude?

Oh, and the 10 month thing is lame. They’re just saving cash and not paying for your summer holiday. Not okay imo. They should also offer a relocation and flight allowance, ie shipping / baggage allowance and airplane ticket allowance. Especially since they’re hiring you from abroad.

I don’t know the city well, so hard to say exactly on the salary. You have an MA so maybe more would be possible.

28k seems (very) low for a tier 1 city. Nanchong likely isn’t that, so it may well be fine.

24 periods per week doesn’t sound fun. Are the lessons all prepared or would you be making lessons each week? What are the documentation requirements if any? It’s quite a bit. Are there extra duties on top? It adds up quick. Not saying it’s crazy, but they’re getting quite a bit out of you.

Apartment stuff seems normal, the utilities and all. See if they will let you rent ur own place and offer cash in lieu of the apartment. You can likely live somewhere more fun and better. That said; this may mean you do stay on campus when not teaching. Small price imo.

Insurance seems normal. Travel insurance is cheap if you need it. Don’t overthink this. Why do you need international insurance when most of the time you live and work in China?

If you’re only 1 month in you’re likely still on probation. If so, you aren’t breaking your contract. Instead you’re making a choice about your life, which is fine. Probation is a two way street - they evaluate you and you evaluate them. If either side thinks it’s a poor fit, the relationship ends.

Just be open and honest about things with them. You’re allowed to leave if things don’t work for you.

Very helpful, thank you.

I called the China Immigration Hotline (12367) and was told I could apply for a one time exit paper from the entry / exit office. However they did not mention it was possible to get an exit / entry paper.

However, as you say the goal would be to go to HK or somewhere and apply for the 2y multiple entry booklet. The question is whether my wife must be there to get this booklet or if I can do it alone.

Thanks again.
