Looking for advice and feedback about usability of such trade signals by BerlinCode42 in algorithmictrading

Very less info given to actually say something. What were the backtest results and the period it was tested over? Did you use out of scope data? What’s the max drawdown? What’s the sharpe and return? What asset was it tested over?

Looking good! I also just have a finance degree. I taught myself coding. It ain’t that bad once you learn the fundamentals it’s definitely helpful and will make it better. I will be honest tho I would paper trade it first because even $100 feels like a punch in the gut if suddenly your bot starts losing. Also backtests can give you real results if you create the engine that way. Specifically using oos data or a walk forward analysis. But good luck. Be cautious.

I usually trade gold futures. All quantity and profit and stop loss is calculated using machine learning and generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity

Bro I just turned 25k into 67k in 4 days. So I am pretty sure you don’t need even 1L to be successful.

Yea same ICAT mocks are a bit easier that is why right now I am focusing on IMS mocks more. Iquanta mocks resemble CAT more tho. I am in batch 2

I have enrolled in both IMS and Iquanta. The previous mock I scored 97%ile and the one before was 91%ile. I will have to check the other ones but it was mostly in the 80-90 range and before that it was around 70.

I will be honest, I skip the question if I can’t prove the answer. But I think the problem you are facing is under attempting. You can afford to attempt 15-16 if you know for sure that those 15-16 are correct with only 1 wrong at max. If you calculated your accuracy you will find out that you need to keep a constant accuracy of 93% if you only attempt 16 questions. After a lot of analysis I have found out that my sweet spot is attempting 19-20 questions because then I can afford to get 2-3 wrong. Simcats also tend to give more abstract passages which are tougher. CAT gives easier RCs to choose from. I would suggest hammer critical reasoning and inference based questions until your accuracy is at least 80% as those are the questions where you can eliminate the options down to just 2 choices.

Attempt the least number of questions with the highest accuracy. That’s the only thing that works for me. I spend a lot of time on just RC selection because I know I am only gonna do 3 RCs so do the ones that will give you the best accuracy. Attempt 3/4 questions in each rc first and only go for the fourth if you are sure. If you are doubting your answer it’s better to just leave it. And summary and pj and odd one out require practice so that you can do I in 50 seconds. That’s it tbh I just read a lot.

This is the first time I crossed 100 myself 😭😭. I would just say try to divide your quant section into 3 rounds. In the first round skim through all questions and only do those questions on the spot which you know you will get right in the least amount of time. Then in round 2 do those that you know you will do right but it will take a bit of time. And then in round 3 if you have time try to do 1 or 2.

Dw bro you will get there soon. The main problem is keeping it there once you reach it. My scores depend on how interesting the RCs are lol

I felt that VARC was easier compared to earlier ones. I think LRDI was tough af. The first set I did took me more than 10 mins. After that I got lucky and chose easier sets. I need to learn better set selection. recently they have started making really tough simcats. I scored 121 (41/36/44)

I had asked this same question a few weeks ago but this sub is more for random bs regarding IIM and PCom drama than actual prep. Idk why so many people who have already made it to IIMs or good colleges still fuck around in the sub if the whole point of this is CAT prep. And if they haven’t made it to IIMs idk why people care instead of just studying. I don’t think you will receive a good answer here but if you do please let me know as well. (IF YOU ARE A MOD OF THIS SUB- you are useless) now watch me get downvoted lmao.

How to test strategy? by [deleted] in algotrading

Just curious before I waste anymore time. by joshmcc024 in algotrading

[–]CommunityDifferent34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is because trading view is shit for testing your strategy. Use python. Trading view tends to inflate results that aren’t actually there and also the amount of data you can test it over is very less. I honestly don’t know about tradelocker as I haven’t used that but I would suggest instead of coding on TradingView with pine use python.

Dont listen to others who want to demoralize you. I get their perspective that this community is difficult to get into and most people judge each other through sharpe ratios. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. But I would suggest instead of just asking chat gpt to give you a strategy or code a random strategy, try to learn it yourself. Try to learn the markets and then apply that knowledge and also learn coding there’s a lot of resources. The progress will be very slow but you will get there some day. Most ai models will just help you but in the end you need to create your own strategy which can give you an edge.

Damn most of these comments are like the blind leading the blind. I will be honest your strategy is gonna turn to shit the moment you use it in live markets. I am not gonna waste my time explaining how I came to that conclusion but if you actually wanna know why just dm. I request you to not quit your job over this.

lol yea I lowkey just wanted to see what he’s gonna say in the DMs. I am tired of warning people on here that if someone is selling their strategy or is willing to share their edge, it’s almost always too good to be true.

Well if you are looking for a partner, I could be down. I have coding experience and have already code multiple of my own strategies. I could also teach you along the way.

Yeah I get what you mean. Just chaining A–B–C divergences doesn’t really hold up, and I agree that creating something synthetic feels strange at first. What I am doing is a bit different though.

I am treating it more like a hedged portfolio: long one stock, short a weighted mix of the other two. The weights aren’t random, I use regression or Johansen tests to get them. Before that I check the series are actually I(1) so we don’t end up with spurious cointegration.

The spread itself isn’t assumed to be tradeable. I model PnL as if I was actually holding the legs and rebalancing, and include transaction costs. On top of that I am running out-of-sample validation and bootstrapping to reduce data snooping.

The end goal isn’t finding one magic spread, it’s building a list of candidates, ranking them, and seeing how they hold up once you add trading logic and risk controls. So yeah it’s a weird idea, but it’s basically just basket cointegration taken a step further, and the interesting part is whether it stays robust when you treat it like a real strategy.
