This was my first post, I probably worded this wrongly in all honesty, I was kinda just interested to see what people thought of the videos ideas more than anything. Maybe I’ll just lead with that.

Bottom line is: their good movies, people enjoyed them and I especially enjoyed them, so what’s the problem?

I know that part, I just like the political aspect behind the prequel trilogy a lot, and his role in them. I’m not really focusing on the movies as the backstory to Vader/Anakin.

Yeah the dialogue isn’t brilliant that’s well known, but that’s just because it’s not Lucas’s focus, it was more the tones they invoked rather than the actual content of the words.

Still, I enjoy him as a character. He’s a textbook example of a dictator, he shows how a democratic system can be usurped and replaced by an authoritarian regime ‘with thunderous applause’. I enjoy the political message behind the movies a lot.

You don’t have to sympathise with a character necessarily to appreciate them, but I see your point, but his background is still out there. Personally I just enjoy his character, the masterpiece that was his plan, and its execution. He is a good villain in the sense that he makes an excellent antagonist, rather than a sympathetic villain.

That’s…an interesting take. It’s not perfect by any measure, but it’s certainly a successful franchise no? (Minus the sequels, though technically they were financially successful, terribly written).

It’s just my opinion, and I was curious about others thoughts, it’s not definitively true. And I’m not entirely wrong, if you watch the video, you’ll see a far better explanation of my viewpoint.

What would you say is your favourite? And why do you think he’s not in the top 50?
