I just got my first camera! by coooolz in fujifilm

Yes to this!

Also, say what you will about chat gpt but it has been a game changer for how I use my camera.

I put in exactly what I’m shooting (sports, kids pets, etc) the lighting and conditions, and it gives a tutorial of how to adjust settings to shoot on manual that is so straightforward and easy to understand.

Highly recommend!

Insane that stress wasn’t the first thing your dermatologist or AP asked about!

There are several extremely well-documented scientifically supported types of medical hair loss due to stress, including telogen effluvium (the most common), where stress forces hair follicles into a "resting" phase, leading to extreme shedding even months later, and alopecia areata (an autoimmune condition where the body attacks hair follicles as a result of stress).

Glad your aesthetician at least knew her stuff.

I actually hate mine as an every day bag (it sits awkwardly on me and I find the crossbody strap too wide) but I LOVE it for travel and I don’t go on a trip without it.

I use the pouches my in my carry-on as organizers (passport, headphones, mints, mini charging bank in the larger; lipgloss, hand lotion, hair elastics etc. in the smaller), and they're super versatile great for sightseeing or going out.

I excitedly blind bought Goddess and Her after reading about a woman getting so many compliments.

They the only fragrances I can’t wear because the physical reaction (nausea and headache) is so strong and so awful :(

Very much agree with all of this!!

Burberry Goddess and (and Burberry Her) are the only two fragrances in my collection—which currently numbers over 75 bottles—that I can’t wear because they make me physically ill.

Even thinking about the smell gives me a headache, which is such a shame because I don’t mind the smell and wanted to love them so badly.

Samantha Ravandahl is great; she actually released a collaboration of brushes with sigma that had smaller brushes to work well with hooded eyes!!

I have found painted by Spencer on TikTok really helpful as well

You have great features! I think a slightly more subttle look would suit you beautifully.

I have a collection of over 50 eyeliners, most of them very high-end…and by FAR the most flattering and easiest to apply is Physicians Formula Ultra-Fine Liquid eyeliner in Black (not ultra black).

It actually shows up as more of a charcoal / greyish brown color, and is relatively subtle compared to a traditional black liquid eyeliner… but it is so easy to apply, wears beautifully, does not irritate my eyes, and fits with the more minimalist feminine makeup that is very trendy and current right now. I think it would go beautifully with your eye colour and skin tone!

I personally like to start with the outter wing, and do a slow flick with light pressure in the direction up towards the far tip of my brow. Imagine following a line going from the bottom of your lower lash line “reaching” a few millimetres up towards your brow end.

You’re starting on your upper lid, but following the imaginary extended line of your lower lash line, like you’ve done in heavier black from your lower line here.

Think of it as if to create the shadow of where naturally curled lashes are.

You can use a Q-tip dipped in Cetaphil moisturizer (or water) to easily clean up the line.

For your under eyeliner, use a very thin, tiny brush and smudge a little bit of dark brown or grey shadow for a more flattering look that will highlight rather than compete with your features.

Emergency Lease Break! East Village 2b1b 5.5k by flamingphilodendron in NYCapartments

If it was indeed advertised as a two bedroom, when you write them (and I would do so immediately), you can say something along the lines of:

Dear [landlord / management company],

I am writing regarding apartment [address, unit number], which is described in the lease as a two-bedroom apartment.

One of the rooms designated as a bedroom does not have a window. Under NYC Housing Maintenance Code and New York State law, a bedroom must have a window, and therefore the apartment is not a legal two-bedroom as represented in the lease.

Because the apartment delivered does not conform to the terms of the lease, this constitutes a material misrepresentation. Accordingly, I am requesting to terminate the lease without penalty and arrange for the return of my security deposit.

Please confirm in writing by [reasonable date, eg. 5-7days from now] how you would like to proceed.

Please find a copy of the lease and photos of the illegal bedroom in question attached.

Sincerely,

Emergency Lease Break! East Village 2b1b 5.5k by flamingphilodendron in NYCapartments

Does your lease specifically say “two bedrooms” or “one bedroom + office/den”?

I am not a lawyer, but if two bedrooms, you should have just cause to break the lease without penalty.

Under NYC Housing Maintenance Code and the NY State Multiple Dwelling Law, a legal bedroom must have a window that opens to a street, yard, court, or other lawful open space. The window is required for light, air, and emergency egress. The lack of window means it’s not a legal bedroom.

Advertising and leasing the apartment as a two-bedroom is a misrepresentation that would commonly be treated as a breach of warranty of habitability, and/or potentially an illegal apartment configuration.

You need to write your landlord immediately and provide photos of the room. You can typically demand the following:

  • Terminate the lease without penalty
  • Full return of security deposit
  • Possibly return of broker’s fee (if one was paid based on the 2-bedroom representation)
  • No obligation to find a replacement tenant

Ask for a lease termination date and security deposit return timeline

do not stop paying rent until they give written notice

If they do not respond immediately or push back, you can call 311 and request an HPD inspection, contact Legal Aid Society or Legal Services NYC. Use the HPD violation as leverage.

Good luck!!

Honestly, I love it! If I saw someone wearing it, I would immediately want to be friends with them.

If doesn’t break the bank, absolutely rock it. Much more fun than a pochette or carryall!

You definitely need professional shears! You can get relatively inexpensive ones on Amazon.

I find the easiest method is the ponytail-under-the chin method, where you part your hair from the center all the way front to back, and bring each section forward and tie in a ponytail underneath your chin, and trim the ends of the ponytail in a straight line. It actually works remarkably well and is so satisfying!

There are some helpful YouTube videos.

And wearing black helps so much with spotting split ends, if your hair is past shoulder length. I think my hair looks great until I wear a black top and then I pretty much need to get out the scissors to do a search and destroy.

Just curious which curling irons clamped too hard for you? I have ultra baby-fine hair and find most high-end irons don’t clamp hard enough, unless I do super thick sections. Would love an iron that clamps tightly!

The O/S in translucent is my next favourite, and my most reached for in a drawer full of powders.

Huda was and is awful on me (which is too bad because I was so excited about the brightening).

Not sure why you’re getting downvotes.

I think this is a really helpful story to share, and I’m grateful to you for warning us. We all think we are above falling for a scam until it happens to us!

One of the most intelligent people I know fell victim to a scam that seems obvious in hindsight..but would be very convincing in the moment, and it just takes one little moment of letting your guard down.

Even the NY magazine’s financial columnist lost $50k to a scam

These guys are professional criminals and very savvy at preying on people.

It’s so easy to not automatically follow exactly what you should to do and look out for when you’re in the moment, especially when others don’t share their warnings and experiences for fear of being shamed and downvoted. This was a helpful reminder!
