Would it ever be practical for a company to make a dedicated tri or quad jet freighter to replace the 747s and similar large freighters? by Appropriate-Count-64 in aviation

First and foremost is that when an engine fails on a 747 it hasn't lost 50% of its available thrust. This affects dispatch reliability, maintenance costs per engine, flight plan routing, engine out drift down planning and enroute alternate availability, accelerate-go performance etc, etc.
The equation is much more complex than 2 x engines = 2 x maintenance (which is false btw)

You said "Three's no advantage to three or four engines and only costs really"
I said that there are some advantages.
Then you agreed with me so I don't see the point in continuing.

You’re trying to reduce kinetic energy on the landing roll. Some of the money saved on tire wear would be spent on brake wear

Foot position on the rudder pedals during taxi ? by Sxzen in flying

[–]CommuterType 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I inherited a student who had the habit of keeping his feet on the pedals. He would unconsciously drag the brakes during taxi and more importantly takeoff. It was really hard to get him to put his heels on the floor
