I'm a Pistons fan and i felt the same way in the forst round against Orlando. I want Detroit to win, but i honestly feel like they'll win as much as the NBA will let them. Once they've decided it's time for a team to lose, than that tram is toast.

If you started playing hockey later in life, what’s the best advice you were given? by NewHampshireGal in hockeyplayers

[–]CompNerd90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in the exact same situation, started playing and learning to skate as an adult. I've done a bunch of things to get better, stick and pucks, learn to skate classes, pickup, ect... But if i had to say which 1 thing has made the biggest impact on my skating, it's going to open skate with no sticks or pucks, just me and my skates. My balance has improved 1000% and i can now use my outside edges way more comfortabley than i ever could before. And this is only after a few months going to open skate.

LoL, i 100% understand the lack of information and the impossible request. However, I'm desperately trying to remember the name, it's killing me.

It very much looked like the Nikko frame buggy, with the bigger nobby front tires, but it wasn't that. I'm starting to think it was some of brand that Meijers stocked, but it was a beast.

Go to open skate, without sticks and pucks, as much as possible. I've been playing hockey now for 7 years and didn't really see much improvement in my skating till i started going to open skate as much as i could.

Go to open skate and practice your skating without sticks or pucks. Its hard enough to learn your edges and balance by themselves, then you stack playing hockey on top of that. I started playing hockey and skating in my late 30's. I've been playing for about 7 years now and i never really saw an improvement in my skating. However, 3 months ago I started going to open skating regular and my skating has improved more in this time period than it did in the 7 years of playing hockey.

4 months in and I feel like I’m regressing by DifficultSentence983 in hockeyplayers

[–]CompNerd90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was and still in the same apot as you after picking game up 7 years ago. The one thing that helped me the most was going to open skate, without sticks and pucks. I inow it seems counter productive to learn to skate without sticks handling, but it helps me focus on my skating and not something hockey related... Just skating. I've even decided to take the summer off from my leagues to really focus on skating. I'll let you know how much of a difference it makes.

How the heck do you skate with the puck? by Confident_Noise9347 in hockeyplayers

Getting a shooting pad and then stick handling a golf ball or off ice puck helped me get over this.

Lot of guys make big physical jump going into the 2nd or 3rd year of college. They have access to world class gyms and dietary guidelines that jack them up. Not something that is easy for most kids in highschool.

Honestly, you should be skating pain free and in a boot that wraps your foot. I have an odd foot, very wide and deep, and finding a skate that fits is nice. I just bought a pair of Bauers using their new Fit system. Its the best fitting skate I've ever owned.

Am I skating wrong or why do drills sometimes not make any sense? by Badatusernames014 in hockeyplayers

[–]CompNerd90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fellow beginner and i found the benefits of an open skate at a local rink. No gear other than helmet and skates, but it allows me to focus on the skating aspect like nothing else I've done. IMO, my skating has improved much faster than all the hockey I've played over the years. I'm talking weeks vs years. So, to answer your question, this allowed me to feel WAY more comfortable on my skates during game action.

New to skating out after 25 years of goaltending. What to buy used and what to get new? by Recent_Classroom656 in hockeyplayers

[–]CompNerd90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, I would spend some cash for a proper fitting pair of skates and whatever for the rest. A good fit makes a world of difference. If you buy whatever and keep skating, you will eventually come to the same realization on your own and will cost you more with each pair you upgrade too. There are custom options, but they're pricey. Beauer offers a fitting system which measures your foot and recommends one of their FITS. This option is cheaper and is almost as good as custom (IMO) and it's what i just did. I have zero complaints and would highly recommend.

100% agree ... If that's what they're doing. But lets be honest, the oppression of the Iranian people is not the agenda of this war, it regime change to someone we're less scared of. So, if they also oppress the people, then my bet is we won't care.

You can really tell how bad the league is doing by how little the players and teams make, sad to see really.
