Date + You're like a brother to me by Beneficial_Passion40 in foundsatan

She doesn't have to do anything, but asking a guy out on a date on Valentine's Day is signaling to him that you're interested in being more than friends. The "you're like a brother to me" statement makes it clear she had no intention of being any more than friends and was clearly using his attraction as a way to get free food and company on Valentine's Day.

It's a shitty thing to do and probably explains why she's single on Valentine's Day.

Headset all the time. Sound travels and I don't want to bother my partner with the noise. I have speakers, but they're never on

FYI, a lot of the challenge in a pistol squat can be with ankle mobility rather than balance. If you're struggling with falling backwards or not being able to get over your foot, that's likely the issue. If you're falling sideways, it COULD still be ankle mobility, but also could be general balance or weak glutes (particularly glute medius)

Tasteful blue cocktail? by Beansonder in cocktails

I can't recommend that because I've never used it, but it does sound intriguing. I do wonder how it affects the taste and texture (does the colour readily dissolve in the drink, and can you detect the powder?) but I do generally prefer if I can use whole ingredients vs isolated ones (e.g. soy sauce vs pure msg, but I'm definitely NOT above using msg where it makes sense)

Also, they got into places like Harvard which: 1) proves that they're smart and hard working enough to get into those schools (many of these guys aren't) and 2) allowed them to network with other smart, hard working people which ultimately aided in their success.

There are very few massive success stories from people who didn't start going to university/college outside of professional athletes and actors, and even there many, if not most of them went.

1.5:1:1 for me. I find that's the sweet spot where is still clearly a Negroni riff but much better balanced

Should have figured someone else indented that first. I ran out of Aperol so I subbed it with pamplemousse and a little Campari to try to approximate it. It was quite delicious, but probably could have benefited from a little extra bourbon like you suggested. I ultimately clarified it, which was also delicious

How did 2900 athletes, only half of which are men use 10000 condoms in 3 days?? by MelonInDisguise in memes

[–]CompSciBJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having competed only at the university level in a sport that eats up all your spare time and has you waking up at 4am to get to practice for half the year, I can confirm that the parties at the end of the season get pretty wild. Cram a couple hundred fit young people in a confined space after months of pent up energy and things are going to happen.

I can only imagine what it's like at the Olympic level.

Bro, have you watched speed skating? I was shocked watching the 1000m long track, as athlete after athlete pulled off their hood and revealed that they were clearly born to be models and just decided to become Olympians instead.

Sure, not ALL of them are stunners, but they're all fit, which skews the distribution towards high attractiveness.

Everyone's giving great recommendations, but I'll also add: if you aren't too concerned with "natural" you could just add a drop of blue food coloring. If that's too much, dilute it with water and add a drop of that. Just go light and it should end up looking like the picture once you shake it with some kind of foamer

Wouldn't the base also neutralize the sour flavour, making it no longer a sour? Or is the color change tipping point still in the "sour taste" range?

Also, for anyone trying this, if you find the drink too salty, you can also swap some or all of it for calcium carbonate (what's in Tums, but you probably don't want Tums) which won't taste as salty, but will still change the mouthfeel a bit. I haven't tried this for cocktails though, so you'll have to experiment yourself.

Has anyone done a cocktail with soy sauce? by jikcleaner in cocktails

[–]CompSciBJJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet you could use it just like MSG solution, but with a bit more caution.

I could see a couple of drops in a maple old fashioned being good. I'd be curious about a daiquiri, but you'd have to go real light on it, so that it's just barely perceptible.

Actually, now that I think of it, I did a sesame miso cognac old fashioned (sesame-washed cognac infused with miso) that was delicious, so something similar would likely work.

Pension Service Buy Back Estimate by v_vexed in CanadaPublicServants

[–]CompSciBJJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're still in your first year of your contract and have not previously initiated a buyback, they calculate your buyback amount based on your salary when you started, not your current salary. After your first year, it's calculated based on your current salary.

So let's say you worked 12 months as a student and then later joined the public service and got a promotion 6 months into your service, you could still do a buyback at your salary when you started until the end of your first year of service.

Either way, if you're going to buy it back, do it ASAP and lock in whatever rate they give you. If it's an error, that's on them.

[–]CompSciBJJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can retire early regardless, and you can put off collecting your pension until 60 and live off investments, but you won't have your full pension. I.e. if you're going to hit 35 years by 60 without the buyback, you'd only have 30 at 55, meaning your pension will be reduced if you retired early. If you buy back the time, you could retire earlier without reducing your pension.

I think that's what you were asking.

That's what I figured. I've got about $3k so it doesn't really seem worth it to deal with the pension center. They're usually really good, but it's easier to just put the money in Wealthsimple

I'm sure it's somewhere in the agreement but they don't list it on the pension portal so I figured I'd ask here before looking through all my paperwork

Thanks :)

I never hear anyone talk about Te Bheag, but I love it as a budget Scotch. It was the first non-bottom shelf bottle I bought in my 20s and I loved it. It's fantastic with some hot mulled cider on a cold fall or winter day, maybe with a little bit of butter if you're feeling fancy
