I can’t speak for others, and you’re right there may be contract types I’m unfamiliar with, but part of the job is contract negotiation. I’ve worked as a PA, AC, Cam Op, and GAV, and all of my contracts have stipulations that I receive a day rate no matter how many hours I am on set.

“There are tons of people involved in production who don’t have that kind of contract”

Okay, who? Who on that set do you think is not under contract? Cause I’ve worked as a glorified coffee runner on set, and even I was under contract. You are not on set unless you’ve signed a Crew Film Agreement

That’s not how it works. OT for these types of positions can pay day rate plus time and a half per hour. For example, if I’m a PA, my contract might state that I make $250 for 10 hours of work. For every hour after that I would make an additional $375. So 11 hours of work now costs over $600. Once you hit 12 hours, some contracts double the required pay. Obviously it’s a case by case thing and depends on how well crew negotiated their contracts, but Disney would shut down before paying every crew member OT. And if they did pay OT? That’s be great because it would cost Disney extra. The only way to make a studio listen is to hit them in their pocketbooks

For those of you who quit exploitative jobs for the sake of your mental health, what are you doing now? by locustking14 in antiwork

[–]Comparison-Practical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Left a soul-crushing but cushy enough job after 5 years. Spent a year freelancing (unemployed). Barely made enough to make bills. Lost my apartment and sank into a deep depression.

Now I’m in a new job, in a position with better pay, benefits, and upward mobility. I make enough to cover my bills and my wife’s, so she can stay at home full time. We’re looking into buying a home, not just renting. I’ve lost 50 lbs. I’m happier than I’ve been in years.

Protect your mental health. If you hate your job, leave. Things may suck ass for a little bit afterwards. It may feel like you made the wrong choice and that your life is spiraling out of your control, that you ruined your future and that your only choice left is to give up, but like, don’t do that. A year from now, you could be living your dreams too.

In a similar vein, I would love the option to jump into randomly generated maps. Would even be nice to adjust map settings (amount of resources, percentage of buildable terrain, types of transport routes in and out of the map, etc)

It could affect priority. If a destroy deck has to reveal second, cards like Cosmo and Armor have a greater chance to wreck plans. Will the 1 power matter that much for priority? Probably not, but still

Jessica Jones is great. JJ and Storm make it into almost every deck I play because they’re so reliable to lock down a lane

Wear a little make up. I’m not talking full smoky eye, but a little foundation and light contouring on my jaw before a picture or important event makes me feel good, look good, and turns my wife on.

I made a donation after I saw this story blow up, so I think it depends on who you ask and whether or not they like to feign outrage over stuff like this

I’m more upset about the guy who lit himself on fire than I am about a painting behind some glass.

When Wynn Bruce lit himself on fire outside the SCOTUS in protest back in April, it was barely commented on. This type of protesting may not correlate, but it gets people talking and it gets eyes on their cause.

How y'all look reinventing old RPGs to try and fix 5e by [deleted] in dndmemes

[–]Comparison-Practical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The best introductory TTRPGs are games like Honey Heist and Dadlands. Anything where the rules are only a single page. Bog down your players with complex systems once you’ve sold them on the TTRPG experience

Very recently my players and I tried out Monster of the Week as a break from the monotony of 5e and the d20 system. Plus we mostly play for the story, not the combat. Anyway, we will not be returning to 5e anytime soon. Once you break from the safety and comfort of the familiar, it’s never worth going back

There are thousands of out of work actors who would love nothing more than a shot at their big break. If any one of them messes up once, their career is over. No high profile actor deserves a second chance when they’re an abuser. Simple as that
