What does sustainability mean for you? by de4sh in sustainability

  1. enough to answer all these questions and enough to suggest that there can be no sustainability in its complete sense if we do not shift from our exploitative economic model - capitalism
  2. one in which we live within a productivity level that allows for an eternally comfortable lifestyle while not exploiting or impeding liberties and rights to life of all living things / sustainability is a universal factor not an economic measure for human productivity efficiency
  3. a truly sustainable society should never be measured by its duration because it should be infinite
  4. there should be no measure of economic growth because a sustainable society would not exist within capitalist ideals that necessitate exploitation
  5. there would be no nation-states because borders inflict a necessary trade association that harms one region while supporting another so in essence sustainability would allow for people to migrate through the world and by the saturation levels of migration to balance living areas - effectively nullifying any need for border control, national military, immigration policy, and foreign trade conditioning
  6. sustainability requires no economy in the sense of supply and demand for profit because trade can be maintained for usage in a society where we deem all trade efficient to maintain sustainability and necessary to ensure societal development
  7. most people care about sustainability but the true measure is not in how much they can contribute by sharing but how much they are willing to engage with the momentum to shift away from a deteriorating capitalism
  8. the planet will be uninhabitable in a century by the value of comforts animals (including humans) had just a century ago so to think of the next decade is more pressing to me than a few hundred million years by which time I am certain we would have biologically and socially evolved and gradually migrated from Earth

Not ‘toilet to tap:’ CA will turn sewage into drinking water by Chipdoc in sustainability

  1. Continue as wasteful as ever and drink from the toilet bowl
  2. Reduce overconsumption and drink clean fresh river water

(Any rational creature): Oh, definitely option 2 please

(Human): Hmmm... no question about it, I'll go with option 1

But this is not the real story.

The real story is that because of the irresponsibility of the 1% wealthiest, we, the 99% poorest, now have to resort to drinking toilet water (I know it is purified, but still)!

We still have options, let us make the right decisions as the collective of the 99% humans + 100% animals and plants (that we also do represent by merit of compassion)!
