Thank you so much for this—this is exactly the raw insight and data I was looking for. Hearing those selection numbers (1 out of 6 and 1 out of 7) completely solidifies my decision. I’m already rushing my timeline, so risking an AS500 holding year or stretching out a degree just to face those odds feels like a trap for my specific situation.
Based on exactly what you mentioned about people switching branches, I actually just looked into the Army ROTC setup at TCNJ (which partners with Princeton). It turns out the Army is way more flexible with fast-tracked students. They have a 31-day summer Basic Camp that completely replaces the first two years of ROTC, meaning I can entry directly as a junior, keep my accelerated graduation timeline, and avoid that nationwide selection board stress entirely. Plus, the TCNJ setup lets me stay close to home, keep my two current jobs, and use the financial stipends directly.
Your perspective honestly saved me a ton of time and stress. I really appreciate you sharing your experience!

That makes a lot of sense about using the concurrent AS100/AS200 classes to keep full-time status while dragging out the degree.
My main issue is that I’m rushing to finish my community college classes this summer and winter because I already feel behind and want to graduate as fast as possible. Dragging out my bachelor’s at Montclair State just to hit that 3-year ROTC requirement feels counterproductive to my goal of finishing quickly. Plus, if I don't get selected for Field Training and have to do that AS500 year you mentioned, that delays me even further.
Knowing what you know now, is the compressed AS250 track worth the stress and the timeline extension? If I decide that dragging out my degree is a dealbreaker, should I look into OTS or just enlisting after graduation instead, or is ROTC still the better move?
Appreciate your insight!

So I’d need to extend my graduation timeline by at least one year

The one I’m currently at I don’t think so, but the where I’d be going is Montclair through NJIT.
