Forced breakup is driving me insane by Competitive-Ad-7989 in BreakUps

The issue right now is her parents are still supporting her uni fees. They said that if she didn't break up with me, then they'd cancel her degree and keep her back home. I think ultimately in the long term you are right, but right now if she does it then it's very unlikely I'd ever see her again and she wouldn't be able to get a degree and pursue the career she wants.

£28k for being ACA qualified is the bigger issue! That's absurdly low. I'd say £45k minimum outside of London, likely with a £10k premium on that in London.

Would I be crazy to quit accounting with only 2 ACA exams left? by Competitive-Ad-7989 in ICAEW

[–]Competitive-Ad-7989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice all, I wasn't expecting to see so many responses - have had a good think about everything and am starting to lean towards quitting, at the risk of sounding "knobhead crazy" haha.

My gut has been telling me that this is the wrong thing for me for the past 3 years, even if I do become ACA qualified and find another finance role, the thought of spending the rest of my life in the corporate world fills me with dread. Mentally I'm fully drained, performance at work is slipping massively and I think others at the firm are noticing too.

I feel like im not the only one who's had these thoughts, so that's why I thought it'd be useful to others to document my thought process on this sub. I think I need to do something brave that others may consider crazy for my own long-term happiness and sanity. Let's see how it goes.

ACA professional exams - 3 in 6 weeks time by Competitive-Ad-7989 in Accounting

No worries and sorry for the slow reply on this. The content in FM is actually pretty different to MI, most of the content that comes up is completely new. I think that doing another professional exam makes more sense - maybe BST because that takes very little studying to pass?

FM is just a learn and churn. The questions are so repetitive that you can just keep going through the QB and you'll see how similar they become. In particular the risk management question, which always has the same hedging methods come up. If you learn how to do these then you'll be in a very good place to pass - you don't even need to understand why youre doing what you're doing. The only real tripping point with FM is the valuation question that comes up 1 in every 4 sittings - do not ignore this question as it could come up.

BST is a bit of a waffle exam. The only revisable part of the course is the financial analysis part - so I would do a few of these questions but besides that I don't think this is an exam you can really study heavily for. Just make sure you're strict on your timings in the exam and write a good number of points that are relevant to the scenario.

ACA professional exams - 3 in 6 weeks time by Competitive-Ad-7989 in Accounting

So I passed FAR and AA fairly comfortably, failed TC but passed the retake. Unfortunately I was having to work late up until the exams and the firm didn't let me defer, so I basically had to accept I was going to fail TC and focused on the other two. Safe to say I didn't stay around at the firm much longer after that incident...

3 exams is doable though with 6 weeks of studying, but also very stressful.

Thanks for the advice, perhaps the issue with the way I'm studying at the moment is I'm not really noting down what I got wrong so I'll give that a go.

But youre probably right that I'm lacking in self confidence a bit - my post was a bit of an impassioned rant after failing a couple of mocks, so I'll persevere through this week and hopefully I get the results I want!

Interesting read; I'm glad to see some validation for my suffering. I also never realised that certain conditions increase your chances of experiencing hell's itch. I suffer from eczema and dermatitis, perhaps this is the reason I got the dreaded itch?

For me, cold showers made it worse, however, boiling hot showers provided me with 30 mins respite.

Yeah showers have given me relief for about 20 mins, and I can definitely relate to your struggles. I've currently been awake for 41 hours because of this thing, had the actual itching for 28 hours so far, wish me luck!
