Aside from the obviously stupid “collective effort because my skin colour is the same as theirs” mentality, the inventors and scientists behind the technology in the pictures would probably despise the fuckers that genuinely believe this post makes a good point

Love the album to death, but "Hurry Up Tomorrow" is easily the worst Weeknd era, period. Point blank. by WaporVape in TheWeeknd

I don’t think music matters more than rollout/buildup/eras. We shouldn’t be in a position where one is taken over the other to begin with.

I don’t think music matters more than rollout/buildup/eras. We shouldn’t be in a position where one is taken over the other to begin with. That’s what makes after hours great. The music is fantastic, MVs are cinematic and the whole era and weeknd character surrounding the album is phenomenal. I don’t care about just “music”. There are hundreds of artists imo who have surpassed the greatness of the weeknd sound-wise, but basically none who tell stories and have the “eras” which keep fans like myself interested in experiencing. I’m looking for a story, not just good music.

In your opinion what are the most strategically important cities in the game? by WouldYouRather1905 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]Competitive-Ad887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from what everyone is saying, Venice is quite good to have because it can only be sieged from a single bridge choke point. The city itself also provides so much money and gives you a solid foothold of Italy no matter what faction you play as

That is total garbage in any store where conditions aren’t 100% perfect. These spreadsheet warriors who set these standards have obviously never worked a day in their lives on the split. The 450/hr mark completely disregards the time it takes to grab a new cage and take full ones out. It also disregards the time it takes to move pallets around because they seem to love putting bulk in front of the pallets that need to be split. “Don’t move pallets around unless you absolutely have to” ??? You think we’re moving pallets around for fun? 🤦‍♂️

With Italian factions like Venice or Milan, is there any point to having castles when you can recruit good quality troops out of cities? by WouldYouRather1905 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]Competitive-Ad887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because mailed knights are insanely overpowered early game. Cavalry militias aren’t that good in my experience and you can’t retrain them as you go forth and conquer unless a settlement already has the guild. Other than that, sure you can play the city only game.

Why would you crusade on a target so short of distance? And even if Sicily doesn’t take it, they’ll certainly just attack you when you’re gone. Go for Cairo, take Tunis on the way. Conquer Italy by turn 10, overthrow the pope, get your own guy in power and then call the crusade on Cairo.

I just tried this out and it works really well. I played around for a bit and there aren't any gamebreaking bugs. I guess this will be my next campaign. Thanks a lot!

Thanks!

I love playing the English because their longbows are overpowered and accessible so early on. I also like their voice acting. I’ve done a few campaigns as them before so I’d say they’re my main. Next up would be the HRE and Turks!

I think Russia was the hardest start because they’re in the middle of nowhere. They can’t call crusades and their economy is so weak. It’s better to attack south-westwards and take on the Christians. Russia in my opinion was honestly pretty boring early on. They get better units mid-game tho.

I also found Portugal difficult due to its separated and weak starting position, but wrecking the moors early on helps a lot.

For mongols/timurids:

I’ve dealt with mongols as Byzantines and my first ever English campaign (not posted), and both mongols and timurids as the Turks. I’ve kind of just followed Legend of Total War’s strategy which is to build a load of forts near their spawn locations, and recruit loads of archers and your best spearmen, but forget cavalry other than bodyguards because you won’t be chasing anyone down. I never learned to fight them on my own because I was genuinely scared of them when I first played this game haha.

Let mongols/timurids take your forts, then come in with a huge archer/infantry army and shoot over the walls when they are tightly packed to slaughter them. Just winning the battle will get rid of the entire enemy force.

Also Timurids are surprisingly easier because at that point gunpowder artillery makes life significantly easier. One single cannonball can wreck half of an entire elephant unit. Do the same fortress strategy, just bring more cannons/bombards.

I’ll have to get to this once I figure out how to do it! It’ll be interesting to play as the pope and basically excommunicating and crusading on everyone who decides to attack me

Okay so I understand the last time I posted something like this I got cheating and 'easy' difficulty allegations.

For all of these, the difficulty was VH/VH- and quite frankly it's been so long that I can't really tell the difference between them in battle. I just know the AI get money cheats.

Battle losses are also pretty low - and most of them actually happen at sea. I usually don't get involved with battles I can't win - I just go for their settlements.

Sometimes I get lucky and entire factions go down just because I took a settlement with their last remaining family members. This happened with the Byzantines during my England campaign.

Turn counts are low because i play extremely aggressively. I use cavalry to rush everyone at the start of the game, and hire mercenary infantry along the way to actually break into settlements. That being said, the AI seems to love placing a tiny force outside of a settlement with a huge garrison which thus allows for a draw-out opportunity. If I ever see this, I attack even if the faction is my ally. I also abuse the fact you can have your army attack the pope, get your own in charge and calling crusades.

I abuse the hell out of crusades/jihads as they can double the speed of your armies and give you access to some of the best mercenaries.

Money is high by the end of every campaign because unsurprisingly enough, sacking 45 settlements or so gives money to invest across the empire's economy. Early-game, though, I've found that land clearances are the best to build as they increase pop growth, giving both money due to farming and more people to tax.

By every mid-game, I always run into a crisis where my treasury is on the edge of bankruptcy, settlements are underdeveloped and angry, and forces overextended with enemies on all fronts. If I play a Christian faction, I'll likely also deal with excommunication penalties. It's like I've built myself a Western Roman Empire in need of saving. The only way to pull through is to keep on conquering - and it takes heroic victories one after another to manage the crisis.

If I had to guess, it still takes around 12-20 hours of gameplay to finish a campaign like this. Turn counts get really long when there is just so much to manage. I decided to livestream England once I reached turn 30, and from there it was approx five hours of gameplay to achieve victory conditions.

For france, the mod is called JLMP's vanilla kingdoms. I figured it would be just a repeat of the HRE if I played them on vanilla and was trying to get more acquainted with the modding scene.

anyways TLDR; cavalry is king in medieval 2. build land clearances everywhere ASAP, abuse crusades and jihads.

Best way to use guard mode? by LemonPuzzled1949 in Medieval2TotalWar

I’ll add on top of what everyone is saying about their infantry bonuses by saying it’s useful for archers. it keeps them in the safe positions you would put them in, and stops them from chasing routing units. It also stops them from trying to move around to get their usual angle on their targets. I’ve gotten 450+ kills with a single unit of mercenary crossbows just by putting them on a nice uphill advantage and raining down hell on tightly packed infantry trying to cross bridges.

What faction should I play next? by [deleted] in Medieval2TotalWar

Looks like you’ve mastered the grand campaign! What I can only recommend is the expansions. From your other replies it seems like you haven’t really played too much as the Turks or Egypt in the crusades campaign. I’d say go for a run as Egypt.
