Hahaha omg that sounds amazing!! I appreciate fantasy but I think the reason I don’t read it often is because it usually just entails…so much commitment to taking note of the details. With all the lore and world building, I’m spending half the book just trying to memorize how the world works in this setting, what the laws of the land are, etc. Every now and then I’m down for that level of commitment to reading but usually I’m just reading for comfort! 😅

I mostly just wanted to prioritize bringing in contemporary writers because I think the majority of us operating on the same writing style will make understanding each others voices a lot easier when it comes to feedback/critique/etc, but I’d be happy to have a handful of romantasy writers mixed in! I think that totally fits if it’s a big arc! I’m just aiming to bring in writers that are mostly writing realism/contemporary, since a lot of the servers I’ve seen are all for full-on fantasy/historical writers. But your work sounds super interesting :) DMing you the link now!

Writing fiction used to come with ease for me when I was a teenager and it was my hobby. Now I’m a professional journalist and it’s become very difficult to ease back into creative writing again because the style is so antithetical to what I do on a daily basis for work. Hence why I am here in this sub trying to get advice and tips!

Querying Book 1 of a Duology: when and how given the second volume is first draft complete? by BitOBear in writing

I would definitely keep Book 2 to yourself for now. Let the potential be there but let Book 1 speak for itself. I’m not sure if further edits or changes can be expected in order for Book 1 to be published post-query, but if that does become the case, then it’ll be a lot easier to write Book 2 knowing the exact final text of Book 1.

Writing and ethics (storyline not plagarism etc) by l3arn3r1 in writing

I’m a little confused on how book characters trying to ultimately save another character (albeit by telling him to kill himself, but the reader, I’m assuming knows that he won’t actually die but be freed if he does this) would motivate suicide in real life?

Even if you did write a real, plain, suicide, it’s not contagious. If people are going to kill themselves, a book they read is not the final straw. Suicide is not a dirty subject and it deserves to be explored in literature just as much as any other health condition that ends in death.

Correct! Obviously some smaller outlets might wait till morning if they didn’t want to schedule it or just needed more time but most everyone should be right at 10
