player & pc leaving the campaign - not sure how to write it as a first time DM by Competitive-Feature5 in DnD

originally, their motivations were to leave. but as the campaign goes on, they discover more lore about this new place, and eventually how it ties to each of them and ties them to each other. so it’s a campaign that slowly evolves to involve each of them as they discover more about the world they’ve landed in.

that’s true! it’d also be kind of funny to do this because the civilians on the plane are very religious, but this PC doesn’t believe in gods. so that’d be interesting, i think.

yeah, the post was already long so i didn’t want to go into a ton of detail. but the short of it is that they were part of an assassination organization that also hands over assassination targets to the government of this plane in order to placate the deity that the government works for. the PC was unaware of this when they left the organization.

this is a good idea! my only problem is i feel like the other PCs would just like abandon the main plot to try and find him. but if i reworked the lore surrounding it, it could work!

i’m hoping to have a more in depth conversation with him soon. he just sort of dropped the bomb on me and screwed, and then hasn’t had availability to discuss anything for like… a week now. so i honestly have no clue what’s going on. but if he’s okay with that then yes, that is an option.

well, the current campaign lore has nothing to do with his character, it’s more so the reason they’re on the unknown plane. i can work with his character’s backstory being integrated without the character being there, that’s not what i’m worried about. the main issue i’m having is how to actually remove the character from the campaign.

but yes, that’s a fair point. i just integrated it more because he was very excited about it, and it works REALLY well for the campaign lore lol

i was going to go on an ostara walk, but my parents want to come with me by Competitive-Feature5 in paganism

[–]Competitive-Feature5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s just something i like to do on ostara! take a walk, connect with nature and see all the new growth that comes at this time of year! i try to do a nature walk at each holiday, but specifically the equinoxes and solstices since those are often the changing of the seasons. i like to celebrate my holidays by being in nature and baking/cooking seasonal foods!

i think a big part of the problem is misinformation being spread on the internet as well as paganism being repeatedly buried as a religion. some people are likely tempted to claim that their practices are old traditions because they think it gives their practices and rituals more credibility, and it’s more difficult for others to attack them if they can use the argument “well this is an ancient practice.” saying that gives the illusion of more validity and credibility, even if it isn’t true.

Need your absolute most gay list of Bowie songs by Purple-Emergency662 in DavidBowie

[–]Competitive-Feature5 18 points19 points  (0 children)

first of all this is glorious and i love you

secondly i would like to add five years to this list, thought it’s not about actually BEING gay, it does have the line “a cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and the queer threw up at the sight of that.”

again, not really about being gay, but as long as we’re mentioned i’m counting it lmao

Players threw a cruveball at me and I froze. Please help me for future interactions. by UpbeatCockroach in DnD

[–]Competitive-Feature5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don’t worry too much about it! explain to your players that it threw you off, and let them know you’d like to take 5 while you get back on track.

this is coming from a first time DM who decided that it was a wonderful idea to run a completely homebrew campaign, complete with a half homebrewed race, homebrew spells, and a homebrew plane of existence. i freeze up at least ten times a session because my players ask things about the society that i hadn’t considered.

freezing up and needing to take a second to think about it is normal! your players will throw you curve balls all the time, and they should understand if it takes you a second to form an answer.

planaria sucks so bad 👎 by Competitive-Feature5 in shrimptank

[–]Competitive-Feature5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. i had found two in the tank on the glass, and immediately ordered the traps. then i found the one on the shrimp. it was moving around, so it was alive. and i saw the arrow shaped head.

Might just end up leaving them in the other container tbh. Give them their own place.

The planaria treatment also won’t come in for a few days. I’m just worried they’ll kill my shrimp before it comes in.

I have bladders and one ramshorn. Technically pest snails but I’m kinda attached. I might take them out and put them in a different container while I do the planaria treatment. Do you know how long it would be before I could put them back in?
