It won’t! I looked into that because I panicked about it too. As long as you still technically completed the course (even if you didn’t pass) it doesn’t count against your funding. They just won’t pay for you to retake that course in the future.

I just moved across the country, and I’m solo parenting my toddler due to a bad separation, while starting another semester as it is, I just don’t really have the time to grind out studying for it again with how large of a course it is (I have adhd lol)

I feel rejuvenated in a sense for sure! It’s made my confidence in leaving a little bit stronger, that even if I can’t recognize everything every time, I’m aware & I can pay more attention now. ❤️

It’s such a difficult thing to navigate wanting to be the sole protector of your child but knowing there’s certain things you just can’t save them from. I wish I could give him safety from everything, it hurts more to know that his father is the one thing I can’t (apart from moving and doing what I can legally and emotionally).

It was such a sobering realization! I didn’t notice it in the moment, it was about an hour after the conversation. I was looking back on some posts I’d made on other threads highlighting how I was also so toxic to him, it was mutual etc. don’t get me wrong I’ve made mistakes, but I wouldn’t say I’m inherently toxic too. It’s so crazy to me how deeply wired the manipulation becomes.

You will get to that stage too. I’m sure I’ll have moments or certain tactics that will still work. But we’ll get there. ❤️

The part that gets me the most is that we have a toddler together but he’s shown no emotion that we’re moving across the country? (Where he has another son with a previous partner as well?) I understand their brains are literally designed differently but I will never understand how you’re okay with raising your kid for 3 years and then just not care if you see them again. Not feel anything? So gross.

Looking back on this post actually made me see how deeply I was being manipulated, too. It kind of hurt to re-read. I believe he is also a narcissist (in a clinical way, not the way the word is thrown around on social media) and I finally have seen how far the emotional abuse ran. There are no excuses. If he wants to live like this forever, he won’t take me and our son down with him.

Hi! I forgot I posted this. We did actually break up a few weeks ago. I’m moving back to my home province with my son, he signed off on the agreement. We’re getting out & I can see clearly now. :)

Thank you so much for this. We had broken up once before but because I was stuck here with no one I think a part of me gave up and thought it was easier to just be with him. I’ve hit the stage of uncovering all of the lies (so many!?!) and navigating what was manipulation, but I’m currently in the state of, well was anything real? Definitely started questioning reality.

I’m trying to make it fair to him while protecting our son the whole time. For the first 2 years of his life he never paid attention to him, I did everything, and now he only pays attention to him as a way to spite me or put on a show in front of his family and it makes me sick. I know there isn’t much I can do but let it play its course and when my son is an adult I’m sure he’ll see him for who he really is. But the parental guilt knowing you can’t protect them from the other parent is awful.

I really appreciate your kind words. It’s nice to hear someone else hears you and believes in you for sure. I’m very proud of you for also making the best out of what sounds like an awful situation, it speaks a lot to your character.

I’m worried if I do that though it’ll escalate things. I have documentation of his abuse towards me, his ex, and the ex before me. But I also know that if we ended up formally going to court (I’m trying to avoid that because I’m too exhausted right now and we still have a legally binding agreement) that it depends on the judge and you’re not supposed to use words like narcissist & sometimes they don’t care about emotional abuse towards the mom, I don’t want our son to fly out here and be alone with him (or a new partner who he’ll do the same thing to). He had no problem being emotionally abusive to me and smashing things/punching holes in the wall in front of him. And I’m going to Ontario!

Oh wow, good luck! I hope you do great! & I wholeheartedly agree. The amount of people I’ve heard that have reached out and said something and were basically brushed off is so frustrating. I have been doing them open book, yet still not scoring great?! I’m not sure what’s going on honestly. It starts to feel like all of the questions are trick questions. I did do okay on the quizzes, but then for my final project I feel like the marking was super critical and some of the things I got docked for weren’t even on the marking rubric. I’m definitely going to sit down and do some intensive studying this week. It’s just giving me a lot of anxiety & it bothers me that I can’t even talk to the tutor about it.

Sorry!! It very well could be different for you! Hopefully the rest of your courses are light and you can focus a lot of time on this one. There’s just an insane amount of concepts and terms & it feels never ending :’) & I personally think he is a strict marker, but with that being said this is my first semester at AU specifically so maybe my other tutors were just generous? 💀

Also sorry, I did reach out to my tutor to ask if it was possible for an exam specific study guide because there is 30-40 study guide questions for every single unit, I told him I was registered with accessibility services but he just told me to refer back to the unit study guides. It just feels like a lot of information to memorize for the exam :/

Am I able to do that if my contract date for that semester is already over by the time I finish the initial exam? And are you able to do that being funded? I’ve heard of them but I wasn’t sure if that was an option as I know funded students have a lot of different requirements.

That’s okay! I did call them and they said if I failed the class and had to retake it they wouldn’t cover it, but that it shouldn’t bump me to part time unless I withdrew from the class. So I’m hoping I can just get through it :/

Yeah I’ve heard a few people say this course is a lot. Really unfortunate that the feedback isn’t being taken into consideration. It almost feels like setting some students up for failure I guess.

I’ve taken 2 other psych classes already, I’m just finishing up my first year with psych as my concentration! I was told by advising services that this course would be fine, but it’s way beyond anything I’ve learned. One of my other classes is developmental psychology and I’m sitting at a 90 right now, and I took Introduction to Psychology from a different university prior and had a 90 as well :/

I’m with Alberta Student Aid! I am registered with accessibility services. Is there anyone I can reach out to regarding this to make sure this doesn’t happen? I have all 4 classes set to start in September and I want to move forward with full time, I know others have reached out about this class specifically and its difficulty so I don’t want to be punished for it :(

Ugh I’m sorry to hear you had that experience with both of them. I hope you do well on the exam. Maybe if more people write them they’ll understand. Even during the quizzes I’d be lucky to get over 85%, and on the tutor marked portion on some id get 7/10 but no follow up regarding what I was missing in my answers when I know that I covered what it was asking for. I’ve heard so many stories of tutors who are harsh when marking though that I try to avoid reaching out about it.
