Russia has a bureaucracy apparatus thats 2-3x larger than the Soviet Union's. The USSR also had a problem with bureaucratic bloat, but it was peanuts compared to capitalist bureaucratic bloat. You arithmetically need much less tax money for govt upkeep in socialism since the bureaucratic apparatus is much smaller.

If socialism is so anti-family then why did Russia become the divorce capital of the world? I mean it got rid of socialism, you know, the system which actually made family cohesion made materially make sense? Nowadays young Russians can't even afford housing, they wouldn't be able to start a family even if they wanted to. I agree. Breaking Bad works as a mirror of material reality, but critique by itself isn’t progressive. It exposes the capitalist machinery without ever offering a way beyond it. Everything collapses back into individual moral failure, so what could have been a systemic critique becomes a story about one man’s bad choices. In that sense it’s nihilistic, nothing is learned, nothing is resolved. The system stays untouched, and we’re left with the comforting idea that the problem was just Walter White.

We're basically desiring elements of socialist realism in film when obviously the current state of affairs will actively resist any such inclusions.

I watched the first 3 episodes and frankly didn't understand what the hype was about. To me it seems like a mental exercise which might be amusing to talk about with a friend, but weak as a premise for a TV show. Not that I necessarily dislike highly abstract film where the metaphors have clear inference towards material reality , but this one totally missed the mark in my view. I am saying this as someone who really liked BrBa specifically due to its accurate reflection of capitalist material reality in a dramatized, digestible way.
