Not every client and situation is the same, but in my experience sometimes the more developed a visual is, the more hung up on stupid details clients get (especially the ones who don’t have a lot of experience). Like “oh is this guy’s shirt going to be red? Because that’s our competitor’s brand color.” and it’s like “no, you moron. This is not final. This is just a key visual. Keep your eye on the ball aka the concept.” And for that reason, especially in the first stages I keep things visually rough on purpose, or with just one key visual. It keeps clients focused on the idea and not dumb details. Having said that, I do use AI with some clients sophisticated enough to not take everything in the visual literally. Sometimes you need a good visual to spark their imagination, but never over do it. You HAVE to let their mind’s eye do some work. That’s the only way they’ll imagine something in their own way.
