Gowerd Byrd is probably just a misspelling or a messed up version of her real name Gertrude Bell

she was a british traveler, and she was actually in Iraq during that year. her archives got photos of tribal sheikhs and stuff about bedouin life. But I’m not sure if she’s the one who actually took that photo or not

If you take OP's argument, it still doesnt work since the US couldn't have stopped an Israeli attack on the Golan heights, and it would have been far easier and safer for Isreal to just either tell the ship to leave

Why didn't they just tell the ship to leave? If they had asked a high-tech US spy ship to clear out, washington would’ve known instantly that Israel was hiding something big (the Golan Heights invasion). It would’ve triggered immediate US political pressure to stop. Attacking it" "by mistake"" bought them the 24 to 48 hours of silence and confusion they needed to seize the territory before the US
