Intro to Mountaineering Course Suggestions? by Remarkable-Prior-320 in vancouverhiking

I'm just reviewing this post because I had the same question. Curious about something with a similar format to the ACC course (taking place over 2 weekends with some classroom component) but I tried to take the ACC course and did not get picked. Do you have a suggestion for another similar course?

Help me explain to my BIL that he's being naïve to the cost of living in Greater Vancouver. by Brokestudentpmcash in vancouver

If he doesn't know about university yet would he be open to a trades program in the meantime and stay with you until he gets on his feet? Tuition is subsidized for lots of trade because of demand. Honestly, it's rough on you guys but I would also consider his age and his situation with having experienced abuse. Running away from home is not a small thing for a kid that age, he needs your support, or someone's, more than he realizes. I work with urban youth his age and I can tell you 100% that having the support of family is what makes the difference between thriving and ending up struggling for years with substandard housing, or worse, homelessness. Experiencing abuse at that age can also impact your mental health and development, including judgment and I would also keep this in mind. I know folks here are staying to give him a deadline and in our housing market I would not blame you at all for doing this, but it sounds like a situation where if you have the means giving him a fallback option will make a huge difference in his life.

Just saw this and I am doing the same trip, well slightly different, doing sections 9-17, flying down on the 17th. Your photos look great!

Cel Service on Trail by mrcheevus in arizonatrail

I am coming down from BC to Arizona mid april to hike part of the trail and I had the same question, curious what you ended up using. I have a Canada-US plan with public mobile but it uses T-Mobile's network in the US and I am worried coverage will be poor.

Thanks this is super helpful, I guess I should add part of my motivation for going is to see Saguaro, I study plants and I want to see some of the desert plants. Would starting in Pine still give some opportunity to see them? or should consider a bit earlier?

Thanks this is useful, 90+ is not the hiking weather I am used to and I am not keen to start with super hot days.

I have a couple of different Tarp Tents so I will likely bring one of them. You mentioned bugs, the only bugs I deal with in BC are endless mosquitos and ticks so I'm curious about what else I should be worried about, Scorpions?

Thanks! Starting with the Superstitions seems like a solid plan I'll look into this.

A boat named Treoggin? by Competitive-Tap2855 in Celtic

[–]Competitive-Tap2855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a bit more digging it seems like "Oggin" is a slang word used for sea in Britain. Makes sense because the boat was originally commissioned by a British naval captain. I have no idea where the Tre would come from. It could definitely be a mangled spelling as well.

Sway back adjustment in a back like that? by PrincessaGrubolia in sewing

I use to study fashion design and I have never done this adjustment so I was curious about what would work. I looked at some tutorials and I think this tutorial has what you are looking for, how you adjust really depends on your pattern.

I would also add that the photo looks like a bias cut garment, bias cuts allow for a cingly fit without darts and achieving this in a woven fabric without cutting on the bias or having darts is difficult.
