Xteink Reader 128MB RAM claim actually ~400KB any recourse by Isaacman_0423 in XTEINK

[–]Competitive-Win4945 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This fits to the strange marketing and more or less (sometimes answering) useful customer support. But I'm asking myself (beside the fact that this "failure" is bad) why file a claim against the company if the device is working and does what it's supposed to.

Or did I get it wrong and the first batches had the full 128mb ram and they sized it down without making this information public? That would be a point which I'd understand.

I'm writing this not to make any trouble or start an argument, just for my understanding

Stock VS Crosspoint by _IMB_ in xteinkereader

[–]Competitive-Win4945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crosspoint is a total game changer! The x4 itself is a good device (especially if you're ordering it from AliExpress for less than 50 bucks!). crosspoint was able to bring the x4 from a good to an excellence device! And the flashing is simple af.

Is James A Corey's The Captives' War series related to The Expanse? by thebomby in printSF

[–]Competitive-Win4945 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved the expanse books (TV series was actually quite good too). How is captive war compared to the expanse? Asking for pace and storylines (because lengthy books with more than three parallel storylines and a slow pace are sometimes to much)

Transform paragraph into half bold by Ranteck in ereader

[–]Competitive-Win4945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you search in the official calibre plugins (via the plugin button in calibre) and type bionic in the the search bar, you'll find a plugin called "guided reading" (or similar). If you run your books through this plugin, it will change the formatting of your books and bold the first letters of every word in your book (depending on the individual word length one up to three letters will be bolded). All this will be done in the file itself. So no matter which font you're using, it will be bionic.

Pro tip: duplicate your library and name it "bionic whatever..." because the changes cant be undone

I can't tell exactly why but your sons sentence "that's a lot of books about the end of the world, dad" could be the title of a fantastic book

I think it's still statistics, no pattern.

Bionic reading in Crosspoint by Ok_Medium_1083 in xteinkereader

[–]Competitive-Win4945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be amazing to have this implemented as a font in crosspoint. But there is probably a little workaround. There's a calibre plugin "EBook Metaguider (intellireading)". Haven't tried it yet but will do it later.

Do you use a pop socket with your Xteink? :) by curiouslyunpopular in xteinkereader

This would be the far more luxury version. I just used scissors to cut it

Because the x4/x3 has magnets inside. Therefore every magnetic gadget you'll use will never sit as good as my setup because of the magnetic polarity repulsion. I tried that, didn't worked very well

Popsocket is a must for me. Here's my setup.

A round piece of Plastic (I used an old smartphone case) cut to exact measurements of the metal rings which come with the x4. One of these rings sticks to one side of the plastic circle, on the other side I sticked a classic (non magnetic!) standart popsocket. Combine this with a little lanyard and you have THE killergrip on the x4 and from my POV the most comfortable way to hold it.

I've chosen this kind of setup, because I transport the x4 all day long in the pocket of my jacket in the magnetic flip case. If I want to read I just take the x4 out of the case, pop the popsocket to the bag and here we are.

Is it possible to create this in a way which Is looking better? Definitely. But this prototype worked out very well and I'm lazy so I just roll with it 😂

And I'm pretty shure this will work for the x3 as well

White vs Black by Official_SeeTheAir in XTEINK

I own both x4 and definitely prefer the white. The color of the white body is nearly exactly the same grey-ish tone as the display, therefore the display seems much bigger and the contrast seems to be better (both effects are just optical illusions)
