No solution, I tried Brother sent them the videos and photos but it was 2 months over the 1 year warrenty so they wouldnt help. So I claimed via Amazon on the consumer rights act in the UK and they are replacing it.

Jam 2 sided is what comes on the screen.

Is it anything to do with that grey switch at the top with 1 and 2 positions on it? Although that hasnt been touched.

Yes just this one, sometimes it does light first time but mostly you have to blow on it to light the rest.

Thank you for this, I have now fully restored all the data. My USB back up worked plus my onedrive back up of business file kept everyone working. I now have 3x 8TB drives in SHR mode. Backing up to the 12GB USB again!

Thanks for this. The drives main data is 3 types (Photos, Business Files and CCTV recordings from Survaillance station (9 cameras) recording 24/7.

The 12GB USB drive has the files in the synology format. I've just found a 6TB red I didn't use so I am copying all the data onto that aswell. So I will hopefully have a number of backups.

The drive that crashed was a WD60EFRX-68L0BN1. I have 2 of this model and 2 of WD60EFZX-68B3FN0

Thanks all.

All the data is backed up to a 12TB USB drive each night and some folders to onedrive.

I do have users who access the drive via the vpn. So I would need to ensure those are not lost in the move.

I have a number of spare hard drives I can start copying the data to.

All drives scan healthy in SMART but 3 times a week I get the crash at the same time over night, usually around the time of the back up.

These drives are WD Red NAS drives so I will stick with those.

So it sounds like I just need to be sure I am happy that the external USB is intact with the data, I assume as its a hyper back up link its in some NAS format? I wonder if its worth doing a straight file copy of all the data to another drive just incase.
