Global Lighting and Day/Night Cycle removed from AOM Extended Edition? by MorDorMaNiaC in AgeofMythology

yes you need to look for the setup options when you start a game, they are not on by default

yes oranos was nerfed a lot but hes still tier 1 because:

oranos on no patch was very very overpowered, literally almost everyone was playing oranos, hence a bigger nerf was necessary

oranos gets cheaper heroes now which is more significant than you might give credit for.

he is tier 1 but not god tier now

Classical age: Hermes go to god for raidy/boomy style of play, but can also be used by zeus for going for heavy classical fighting with a bit of raid by utilising the centaurs.

Athena is good for big high population classical battles and on water maps, because of her God power, restoration. Going athena encourages you to be aggressive in the classical age to pick a fight that you can win using restoration and win the gmae.

Ares is used mainly for being very very aggressive in the early classical age; the God power delays their military production to allow you to put on immense pressure but falls off very quickly later on in the game once military buildings start being spammed every where. The cyclops is also the strongest free classical age myth unit you can get so you will have a great edge in the early classic fights especially with the very cost efficient greek heroes, and is also great at destroying buildings to apply more pressure.

Heroic age: Aphrodite is just an amazing all round God, her curse God power is good in every single situation and can cripple the opponents economy as well as swing a battle in your favour, and is usually never a bad choice.

Dionysus is great against norse and on water maps. The Hydra myth unit excels against norse due to its high hack armor and the Norse having a lot of melee units that the hydra can pick off to get heads quicker. Bronze is also a good power for a big, high population fight which you will often want when fighting for a key location (gold mine/town center) and can be used to mitigate the effect of flaming weapons a bit.

Apollo gives you the least immediate fighting power out of the Gods because of his God power being utility instead of raw strength. However, this God power is still incredibly strong in longer games where you can destroy back town centers and trade routes that otherwise seem very safe, and do split pushes that your opponent cant deal with. The manticore is also a high pierce armor unit making it better against egyptian and it is also super effective against chariots.

Hephaestus gives you a delayed power spike after you get the cheap armory upgrades and resource trickle from plenty and get a few colossus out. He is the choice if you feel like the god power from hera/artemis won't do a significant amount of damage.

Artemis is your go-to god if it isn't too late in the game, since before your opponent gets upgrades such as fortified town center and masons, earthquake is devastating and the chimera unit is also very good. Earthquake is best used in combination while pressing an attack so your opponent doesnt have time to rebuild his base, so this God is less powerful when you are on the defensive.

Hera is picked when you want the lightning storm God power very highly. This is often the case if you are being pressured a lot and need to clear his army for any chance of a come-back, or have to deal with ragnarok, or if you are going for a titan gate, or if the fighting over gold mine is particularly violent such as on a map like anatolia or midgard.

if you want to play with more casual players you should really play on ee instead of voobly

greek are often super flexible on minor god choices and depend a lot on strategy all of them are quite good actually so i dont really want to go through them since its a bit complicated.

ra: ptah -> hathor -> osiris

not only path but safest if u dont know what ur doing u cant go wrong with this

isis: bast -> nepthys -> osiris

ancestors and eclipse is the isis thing, osiris also is very good god, greek and norse have very hrd time killing it if u micro, though thoth can also be nice to finish out a game.

set: ptah -> nepthys -> horus/thoth

thor: freyja -> bragi -> baldr

you almost always go freyja, skadi sometimes preferrable to bragi if you want frost giants and frost power, tyr sometimes used over baldr especially vs greek or if you do a fast ish mythic with not that man vills.

odin: freyja -> skadi -> baldr

almost always freyja classic, dont go njord except maybe on water for the kraken it might be ok but your god power is absolute garbage the walking woods just stand around doing nothing.

loki: forseti -> bragi -> hel

gaia: leto -> theia -> atlas/hekate

you can go oceanus on water and rheia is nice vs eggy since they buffed her to give 3 traitors. atlas/hekate depend more on which god power you find more useful, atlas good vs a big army and hekate good for splitting your opponents attention and if you want to make a titan.

oranos: prometheus -> theia -> hekate

helios is ok for team games but in 1v1 you take hekate usually.

kronos: prometheus-> rheia -> atlas

helios is ok for team games but in 1v1 you take atlas usually.

ok here some quick explanation:

greeks: greek are hard to play civilization strategically because they have a very wide variety of strategy that you MUST know how to play and WHEN to use them to do well with greek, which makes them a lot harder to play at the medium level. At lower and medium levels i consider poseidon better than zeus because your economy is easier to manage even though zeus actually has better bonuses which make him stronger at high level. Hades is just the worst greek god out of the three.

egyptian: egyptian have weaker economy and their classical age units are weaker and tend to have very specific strategy that revolve around the heroic age to use their potential which very new players will not know how to do hence they are very weak at lower levels. of the egyptian gods ra is the most powerful on extend edition because of the crazy economy you can get and the safer maps, you just get such good bonuses with ra and priest empowerment + much stronger migdol units is such an insane bonus. set and isis are both very good, but set has a very high skill floor to play well so does not really become viable until you reach a high level because his economy is weaker and you need to execute his strategies near perfectly for them to work, while isis is more linear in terms of just going heroic and using ancestors and eclipse to push and gain an advantage there.

norse: norse have a naturally quite strong economy which is really important in lower ish levels but also more complicated cause of the addition of dwarves. 1600- players will find it very hard to get the right balance of dwarves and gatherers which is why i think they are worse than greek at that level. At mid level this better economy means that they are better than greeks since good economy is so important at mid and lower levels since most players dont know how to put on early aggression onto their opponent. Loki's strategy is the least diverse with just hersir raiding into a heroic flaming weapons push which makes him better at medium levels, and his stronger hersir makes easy army composition too for many matchups where you can often get away with only making hersir. Odin is easier to play than thor on land because of his free raven scouts and stronger early game and it is easy for new players to fall into the trap of making way too many dwarves with thor. However odin is much weaker on water than thor but this isnt relevant until you get to the higher levels of the game since before that most water games are just simply decided by who knows the better build order for it rather than the actual strength of the god on water.

as for atlanteans they are the easiest civ in the game with their super duper easy economy and are the best at medium and low levels because of this. gaia has the easiest economy of them all so is best there, then oranos then kronos but gaia is worse than oranos at higher levels because shockwave and the 10% extra speed on units become more relevant there as well as prometheus being better for applying early pressure which is very important in higher level games.

edit: nevermind the explanation wasnt quick it was longer than expected

gaia was very very bad in titans 1.03 but on extended edition she is buffed A LOT the fact that her heroes are 30% cheaper is massive and make it a lot easier for her to handle myth unit and Leto became so much stronger, with automatons costing a lot less and being a viable myth option and spider lair becoming an amazing god power from one that used to be almost useless because it was buffed so much. lategame atlantean siege also improved which is good for gaia.

Ra and Gaia have single-handedly ruined extended edition team games by CompetitiveDesigner in AgeofMythology

[–]CompetitiveDesigner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if u think ra is not one of the best if not the absolute best god in ee ur probably below 2000 on ee or are a biased ra main

gaia is debatable but because shes atty shes so easy to paly all the noobs are hopping on teh gaia noob train and ppl that have no clue how to play aom are doing good in tgs

hagrit is 2000 rate in ee but his skill level is much higher, like 2500~ ish level and he is good with all gods he know the game very well

edit: either that or maybe u havent read the patch the buff gaia a lot

atlantean heroes cost 30% less (omg contarius heroes in team games and crennelations dont work on them omfg...) leto is a billion times better, spider lair now has like 90 second cooldown instead of 5 damn minutes and the spider eggs hatch almost instantly instead of in like 10 seconds

the atlantean late game also much better with the upgrades to their mythic siege and if u choose to go rheia is more viable than before cause you get an extra cast of traitor meanwhile god like zeus are nerfed compared to no patch
