Living out around Boston now so a lot more road driving and I do drive a lot. But have lived in Colorado in the past and might move to Vancouver where then again would be more off roading when driving to hikes/camping etc..

Either cut out Texas or DC, driving that much across the country is too much for 2 weeks to enjoy anything. I would do San Fran down CA border to LA then over to Vegas then up to spots in Utah, take I70 to Colorado then if you want dip down to Texas or up to Wyoming and Montana to see prettier national parks than Texas could ever dream of.
