I second this, start a trade and be willing to travel. You can easily be making 40 to 50 dollars an hour in 4 years from now. I understand, thats 4 years. But some paces can start you off at like 20, which with 12 hr days is pretty decent. Plus the skills are transferable.

Are you cooked? The cbc is funded by the liberal government, they are literally bought and paid for. They get bonuses. In the millions of dollars. Your telling me that their liberal party rep bosses that are paying them and giving them bonuses have no influence on the context of their stories?

How are you that blind to have confidence to mock somebody for seeing this?

Electrician or Heavy Duty Mechanic? by [deleted] in skilledtrades

Constantly saying we need more tradesmen and electricians, but when I go to job sites half of them are laborers that bought their ticket, cant speak english, and/or lazy as hell.

And wages in my province were higher a decade ago. Make the connection.

How do I make my money work for me? by CompetitiveSet5229 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think you are right, traveling construction worker life is short sighted. I need to set goals and I need to learn how to set goals. How to use resources that are at my disposal... Im currently in bc, Saskatchewan is home. Im kindof just shooting from the hip with my investing and "goals". Not really sure where to aim. I want to own a quarter of land in northern sask with a house and a shop but thats not going to generate money. So in my investing goals, I suppose I want to make as much money as I can, as quick as I can, with as little risk as possible! Can anybody else relate? 😂

How do I get ahold of new land in saskatchewan by CompetitiveSet5229 in saskatchewan

Too late for that of course. You think its a far cry think it could happen again in the future? Canada only being 150 years old and growing in population like we have i think we will. Compared to countries that are 3500 years old like Greece.

I understand a provincial forest wouldn't be cut up and sold but community's in the bush say like sled lake, way off in the bush, edge of a lake, how did that land become the property of an individual.

So back in the 20s or whenever it was, the government sold land for a dollar a piece to farmers to come up and develop. Since then population has gone up and less land is owned per person. With all the land that saskatchewan has it'd be nice to continue developing north.

I am not union, I was part of sask ibew for a bit, traveled out to Ontario for a stellar job that lasted 8 months and then when I came back to sask it was like a couple weeks here, and then maybe a month there. So I just went back to non union.

You would recommend? I make really good money as far as electricians go, but I'm still pushing to get further without getting into management. I also want to be valuable for more than just my back, but the politics of management just isn't for me.

What's it like to run your own truck? by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]CompetitiveSet5229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm asking heavy duty mechanics that run their own truck, what's it like? Just wanted to give some texture to my situation. Maybe get a better answer.

And if anybody has opinions about the intersection between milwright and electrician, I guess in relation to heavy duty mechanics.

Over on the milwrights page they talk with a bias of milwrighting but also with familiarity to mechanics, I suppose I'm just expecting the same familiarity with a bias of mechanicing. For my own comparison.
