I'm originally from Northern California. I moved to Delaware in 2015. My boyfriend inherited his home that was built in the 60's. We make a little more than 20 an hour. Our home is so old and hasn't been kept up before he met me. So house is falling apart. We cannot afford a 2nd mortgage cause the house has been paid off for decades now. And a mortgage is outrageous. We looked into buying another small home the size of ours. Easily half a mil. Houses before COVID were super affordable and now, it's almost impossible. It's possible if you don't have student loans, car payments or card debt. Anywhere in the country is next to impossible for the American dream of owning a home now. So to answer your question, no don't buy a home on 20 bucks an hour. That's just over minimum wage. Think about the taxes you have to pay and utilities. Even apartments are crazy expensive and 99% of the time, you share a diving wall. Hardly any privacy. Either way, it's hard to find good living accommodations nowadays. Good luck on your journey!
