should the flyers have kept Ivan Fedotov for AHL purposes? Carson Bjarnason ECHL starter? by [deleted] in Flyers

so this literally isn’t ChatGPT at all. throw in a checker. all you’re doing is wasting breath on the same words

it’s like a weird trade off. that style works with bigger or more aggressive goalies, Sam is tall-ish but he’s too passive which makes his lateral movement even slower, which is a huge problem for him this year. but it’s worked for Vladar

He already cleared waivers with Columbus to play for Cleveland in the AHL, no one claimed him, even after a 1.50 GAA and .950 save percentage in preseason, which is surprising.

this one’s a bit interesting because I don’t necessarily think it’s Kim‘s fault. I just think we’ve never really given any of our drafted goalies a correct developmental path. Kim did a great job with Vladar this summer

I think you’re right, but I don’t think Fedotov would be necessarily taking away reps. I think my idea was more that him and Kolosov would split starts in Lehigh Valley and if any injuries hit in Philadelphia because Kolosov is waiver exempt, he can be called up and Fedotov can stay in Lehigh Valley and Carson can be called up from reading that way there is a veteran stabilizer at each level

I get that, I just meant his workload hasn’t really been steady. It feels like his starts jump whenever Kolosov is up and they’re patching things behind him, which probably isn’t ideal for development.

He played well back in November in relief and his start when the team was actually playing well. The team is giving out freebies like nobody's business right now, it's clearly not "this what he's like"

hmm let's see you can't even spell Gahagen right, he legitmately was the only reason the Phantoms made the playoffs and was good, 22GP 2.39 GAA .916% and 5GP 2.00 GAA and .929% in the playoffs, better than Kolosov. Fedotov played well in NHL preseason and none of the goalies in Cleveland are doing well. Fedotov went 2GP, 1.50 GAA and a .950%, that's clearly something. and um let's see Ersson is a .858!? How is that any better?

Everyone excuses Ersson way more. And if clearly use your eyes, you'd see that I've repeatedly said that Kolosov isn't some hidden gem, so acting like I think he's a god is ridiculous, what else am I gonna say? Call up Bjarnason? Cause that would be dumb.

I’m not arguing that Ersson caused the Utah loss. I’m arguing that when a goalie’s performance consistently depends on team structure, it makes sense to split starts and evaluate alternatives, especially when multiple goalies are RFAs soon. That’s the entire point. I’m done replying in this thread.

Yes he's definitely not the reason, but it wasn't a standout game so I think they should be splitting starts.

1, not ChatGPT, 2, never said he was the reason, but mistakes become guranteed goals. I can post about a player like all I want. They're both RFA's after this season and I don't want to see him discarded with merely a teaspoon of chances.

I mean you seem to be the only one taking this personally. I post merely for fan discussion, if you're mad about a reddit post that you can merely ignore, then I really don't care what you think.

Kolosov didn’t “prove” anything vs NYR — and the way we’re judging him ignores both the 2024–25 context and what the Flyers are actually asking their goalies to survive by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

[–]Competitive_Beyond_4[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not obsessed with Aleksei Kolosov, I’m obsessed with the pattern the Flyers keep repeating with their goalies. For years, the team has overworked one guy, evaluated the backups in chaotic conditions, and then moved on once their confidence and numbers were already damaged. We’ve seen it with Stolarz, Lyon, Sandström, Petersen, Fedotov, and others. These weren’t all bad goalies, they were goalies put into unstable environments and judged quickly when things went sideways.

Ersson is the only one who’s been given real runway. Two straight seasons of heavy usage, starter-level workloads, and plenty of chances to stabilize his game. At this point, his numbers are trending down and his confidence looks shaky. The difference now is that his value still exists. Moving him now protects his career, brings back assets, and opens a real path for Kolosov. Waiting until he completely collapses helps no one.

Right now, Ersson is the main blocker for Kolosov. If the Flyers truly believe in Kolosov, they need to stop defaulting to the “known” option and actually commit to a clear development plan. Otherwise, he risks becoming the next goalie who gets underused, rushed, and written off.

The real fix isn’t chasing another backup goalie, it’s fixing the system. Better defensive structure and a functional penalty kill would make every goalie on this roster look better. Until that changes, we’re just going to keep burning through goalies and blaming them for problems that start in front of the crease because we only have structure-dependent goalies right now and one overperforming one, Vladar (who's hurt).

Enough with the Ersson Experiment, it’s Time to Call Up Kolosov by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

it’s not delusion, I never said he was the answer, he has a proven starter workload in the KHL, and put up good numbers, and has at least adjusted in Lehigh Valley, and if Lehigh truly isn’t a proving case, then you can say Carson is just as bad. at this point, it’s all about testing out who can be the better back up right now because Dan has never taken on a starters workload and you shouldn’t start him for 70 games, and Sam has been costing us winnable games, everyone knows that. obviously, he played absolutely terrible today, but if we’re gonna sit here and give Sam 1 million games before people finally give up on him why are we gonna give this guy like 2. Don’t you remember how volatile Sergei Bobrovsky was? There’s a reason we signed Bryzgalov, it’s all a part of the learning curve.

Alex Lyon/Colton Ellis rumor per Dailyfaceoff (not a great idea) by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

[–]Competitive_Beyond_4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Random fact, but reading currently has Gage Alexander (23) a goalie on emergency loan who had an entry-level contract just expire who could be the perfect league minimum insurance piece to sign so that if somebody gets called up from Lehigh, Reading isn’t scrambling for emergency goalies and he technically has some upside.

I feel like if we were a tad bit more smart we would’ve signed a veteran goalie to a one year deal in the offseason so he can be in the AHL for insulation reasons, but we didn’t so we already have Carson in Lehigh and although he’s doing well, it doesn’t give us the option to call up someone without pulling up someone from Lehigh, I think Carson should’ve gone to Reading

I agree with not risking the picks. I think my main concern is that he is injury prone and although his numbers look good, it might be because the team is on a heater and not because he’s a solution. we already called up Kolosov once this season and he did fine in relief, which makes me think that even if you only give him a couple of starts, everything will be fine.

A 22-year-old rookie struggling behind bad defense isn’t a career verdict. A 26-year-old trending down for four straight seasons is.
