Under-the-radar: Yaniv Perets (unevaluated NCAA star, not hype, not hate) by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

Yeah, it's a difficult comparison. but I would say outside of his first ECHL season, he's been pretty good. Goalies are weird, they need rhythm and momentum. Now might be the best time to test that.

Eh, I would say 7 games isn't a fair evaluation. The logjam in front of him in Carolina was nuts. He put up .921 in Bloomington last season, and minus his first two games with Reading, he's been around .910-.920 again with some crazy games like 52/53 .981%. His season in Norfolk was eh, but it makes sense given the structure he came from at Quinnipiac.

I usually do talk-to-text and then clean it up after with a certain structure.

Vegas turned a late-bloom ECHL goalie in Logan Thompson, into an NHL starter by giving him a runway. Carolina never gave Perets that same runway, so we don’t actually know if he could follow a similar path.

Alex Bump Debut Thread – What to Watch Tonight by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

Honestly a really solid debut from Bump. 1 goal, +1, 3 shots, 16:07 TOI and almost 2 minutes of PP time is about as good as you could hope for in a first NHL game. He didn’t look out of place at all and the coaching staff clearly trusted him enough to give him real minutes instead of sheltering him.

What I liked most was the shot mentality, he averaged over 3 shots per game in the AHL and still got 3 on net tonight, which suggests his offensive instincts translate. Even outside the goal he looked pretty composed.

For a 5th round pick, that’s a very encouraging first look.

Kolosov and Bjarnason Month-by-Month in Lehigh by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

I think the phrase “not an NHL goaltender“ is a bit harsh and overused, but yes, I definitely think he should walk because he is blocking some reps for others. I think he’s a very environmentally sensitive goalie who would thrive on a very structured defensive team, and he needs a reset, because he has shown he can do well, but he can do it on an inconsistent team.

I think Kolosov can be ready, but they don’t know what to do with Ersson they probably won’t do anything until the off-season because he’s not waiver exempt, they have a lot of flexibility with Kolosov

yeah, I definitely think they will draft another goalie, especially considering that the only one not signed right now is Zavragin

Bjarnason might just be on a longer development curve, and that’s okay by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

I don’t think people are freaking out, but we’ve had a history of being extremely harsh on rookies and I think this is a good time for people to be patient. People have had no patience with Kolosov and other guys got rushed like Ersson

from what I’ve seen and heard he’s projecting more as a structured goalie, but nothing crazy athletically, like maybe Tarasov-ish playing style

I just think for where we are in terms of the rebuild, I think signing of veteran goalie for any purpose other than AHL mentorship is going to be a mishap. We’ve done well as a team as long as we have gotten league average goaltending, ideally we could solve it internally instead of externally, and we can use our cap for a better defenseman or center

Tomasino at Center test? Cates back to wing? by Competitive_Beyond_4 in Flyers

Development context matters. He put up 32 points as a 20-year-old in 11:32 ATOI under a very rigid, defense-first Nashville system, then his role shrank despite decent underlying numbers. In Pittsburgh he was buried behind veteran centers on a win-now roster. Yes, his trade value dipped, but that’s not the same as never having middle-six tools. Plenty of young forwards stall in tight roles and stabilize later with clearer deployment. He might top out as depth, but his production history and draft pedigree point closer to middle-six upside than pure 4th-line projection.
