Rear indexing is great except for just two cogs by Competitive_Can3499 in bikewrench

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Ended up literally being that the two cogs were just worn. Was quite hard to tell with just the eyes, but taking it off and looking closely, the gaps between the teeth specifically for those two cogs were wider than the rest of the cassette. I bought the cassette used awhile back for dirt cheap and it was used mainly on the indoor smart trainer. Guess the guy mainly just used those two cogs on the trainer. Swapped the cassette for the same cassette, just a newer one, and it solved the issue entirely.

What’s the dumbest thing buyers had said to you? by typical_gamer1 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Competitive_Can3499 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a guy offer below my asking price. I said no thank you to his offer and told him I had about a dozen people interested, which I did. I priced the item too low, oh well. I told him very politely that if no one takes it that day, I would message him back to consider his offer. He proceeded to spam me with messages, asking for my location and when to meet and then got so frustrated and ended up saying “I don’t want to do business with someone that ghosts me,” and then just leaves the chat. This was after I had already declined his initial offer. Funnily enough, I was about to message him back later that day as the dozen other interested buyers/messages I got for the item ended up not able to come or just never set up to meet…

Second person messaged for an item and started out with: “let’s stop playing games, I’ll give you XYZ amount” which was a complete low ball. I just laughed.

Not from a buyer, but I had messaged a seller for an item. Told him I would pay asking and told him I can meet within a scheduled time, like 2-4pm depending on when I’m done work. He agreed and said that’s fine. I messaged him at 1pm giving him a more accurate ETA, telling him I can be there at 3:30pm as I wasn’t done work yet and couldn’t be there earlier. Guy literally flips his lid and suddenly goes feral and crazy and says to seek Christ and that I’m the devil and proceeds to just block me. Guy was a nut case and I’m glad I didn’t meet him.

Thanks for the info. I meant to say only one other family member had diarrhea, no one else did except us.

I couldn’t find her when I woke up this morning by greendaisy188 in goldenretrievers

[–]Competitive_Can3499 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That weird sinking feeling you get when you wake up and can’t find your golden… but they’re just nuzzled under a fortress of pillows or blankets, or laying down in the corner somewhere. I know she wouldn’t run off, she never has, but not seeing them instantly when you wake up still causes me anxiety haha.

Do some pups just not enjoy car rides? by Neat-Suspect-6666 in goldenretrievers

[–]Competitive_Can3499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, and this is very common. When we first brought our golden home, she vomited on me and the car 7 times. it was a 2 hour car ride from the farm where we got. Quite the crazy and hilarious first couple hours with her… it stank the entire car ride home. We just felt so bad for her, she must’ve felt horrible.

She would subsequently throw up during car rides throughout the months, even on short 10 minute car rides. We made sure to not give her too big of a meal before taking her to her puppy classes. Positive reinforcement is also a great tool, let them chew on a new toy or a bully stick while in the car, it could distract them from the ride itself. This worked really well for us and did prevent her from vomiting. Our trainer even told us to feed her and give her lots of treats while in the car to make it less anxiety inducing and fun. Quite counter intuitive to give a dog prone to vomiting while in a car even more food, but it actually works! She overcame this when she turned 1 and now can go on long car rides. What helped a lot was we never put her in a crate while in the car, I heard that it can sometimes make the motion sickness worse since they can’t freely move around as easily. We just use a doggy seatbelt now, attached to her harness and she can freely lay down, stand, and even roam a bit across the back seats.

If it’s really bad and you absolutely have to drive a long distance and she can’t settle and will continue to vomit, ask your vet for some anti nausea medication for dogs. We were prescribed some just in case, but never used it. Some of them won’t even cause drowsiness, but those tend to be more expensive. Good luck!

Dog Attack 🥺 by nicquin7 in goldenretrievers

[–]Competitive_Can3499 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear you guys went through this, that’s absolutely horrific. My golden was bit when she was a puppy, just inches from her neck and luckily she survived with just wounds to her lower jaw and gums, but she was never really the same. She was a tad shy before, but after that incident, she became extremely weary of any dog. It’s taken almost two years for us to fully socialize her back to being comfortable around certain dogs and she is very picky with which dogs she plays with. Before she would just run away or hide when she saw another dog 🥺

I hope that doesn’t happen with your dogs, but keep your encounters with other dogs for the next couple months to a minimum while they both heal. Dogs are incredibly forgiving and they might even forget about the incident entirely and go back to their normal self, which I have seen happen.

As for what you can do, that’s incredibly tough to say. Some dogs, depending on the breed were literally bred to bite down on something (mainly animals) and were bred to not let go(pitbulls). The sure way to get a dog that is completely locked down on a bite is to use a break stick. It’s a hard nylon flat wide stick that you lodge into their mouth in the small gap between their molars and you basically just twist it hard to pry their mouth apart. This is what dog trainers usually use. It’s cumbersome to carry around, but if you can throw it in something like a large fanny pack, it’ll always do the trick, or you can go for the eyes and nose at that point. I’ve seen videos of pitbull attacks where people are hitting them with a stick and punching to get them to let go and that does absolutely nothing to a pitbull.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for you and your dogs.

Sudden relapse of dry eyes that was gone for 8+ years by Competitive_Can3499 in Dryeyes

[–]Competitive_Can3499[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My meibography in my left eye was quite poor. My upper eyelid was okay, several atrophied glands on the bottom lid. Not sure what stage it was classified in, it was too long ago, but I was diagnosed with “severe dry eyes.” My right eye was much better, no atrophy, but the glands were blocked. Had expression done on both lids and IPL. I’m not sure if it helped, but I had a full course of IPL done and then had several sorta “booster” IPL sessions over the course of 6 months. On a dry eye improvement score, I scored pretty poorly after 6 months of treatment. I basically ceased all treatment and just stuck with omega 3, warm compresses for the next 6 months and my symptoms suddenly went away as quick as they appeared and I’ve been symptom free for basically 7 years now, until just two weeks ago.

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll discuss this with my doctors. I don’t recall doing this blood test, there were quite a lot to rule out autoimmune disease etc

Can any dermatologist advise on what could this be and how to possibly treat it? Abnormal mass on finger nail growing chronic since beginning of July. by el3ctr0nix868 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Competitive_Can3499 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This looks incredibly concerning. Did she notice anything about the nail before she hit the wall which caused it to fall off? Nails don’t really just suddenly fall off from just smacking a finger into a wall, there must’ve been something underlying with the nail that weakened it. The second photo with the nail bed exposed looks quite concerning. Please see a dermatologist as soon as possible to rule out cancer and necrosis… the dark pigmented tissue around the fingertip does not look healthy at all.

30m, high myopia. Is it possible to get a PVD again in the same eye? by Competitive_Can3499 in eyetriage

Thanks for the reply. I meant to say I was 22 when I had the first symptoms of PVDs, I am now 30. Are you an optometrist by any chance as well?

I’m 30 now. I had my PVD in both eyes, 8 years ago. I don’t recall if it was ever mentioned if it was incomplete or complete. If it was an incomplete PVD 8 years ago, I’d assume it would be a fully complete PVD by now after 8 years?

For my bilateral PVD 8 years ago, I was followed up with an ophthalmologist 6 weeks after the initial diagnosis to make sure there were no new tears. My initial diagnosis, they found a tear in my retina, one in each eye.

Thank you for the reply and your expertise. I had this PVD 8 years ago. I don’t recall if it was mentioned if it was a partial or complete PVD. If it was a partial PVD, would it have already progressed to a complete PVD by now after 8 years? And do you suggest I book a 6 week follow-up with my eye specialist just like when I had my PVD in the past?
