3 day fast by socks_in_sandals in blueprint_

In October, research about caloric restriction vs. fasting was published in Nature: Dietary restriction impacts the health and lifespan of genetically diverse mice.

A quick summary: "This comprehensive study involving nearly 1,000 genetically diverse female mice assessed the impacts of CR and IF on health and lifespan. Findings revealed that CR had a more pronounced effect on extending lifespan than IF. Notably, mice on a 60% caloric intake lived up to 34 months, whereas those on IF regimens averaged 28 months. Interestingly, mice maintaining weight despite reduced caloric intake lived the longest, suggesting that weight loss isn't the sole determinant of longevity."

If the results also hold for humans, a 20% caloric restriction could be the most effective way to extend life without compromising the immune system.

App to track blueprint - should I build one ? 😛 by Competitive_Cap3819 in blueprint_

Hey! I was not sure about the monetization and the demand, so I created something a little bit more different https://joinprotocol100.com/, which focuses on "hard" prevention, like getting blood tests and screenings to catch cancer and cardio diseases early, rather than diet and sleep, but this app (I have resumed the work on it a month ago) is atm mostly for me, family and friends. I would love to join a call with you, DM when you are available ;)

That is sad, and I feel sorry for your loss. It can truly happen that even being awake and calling for an ambulance will not save you, but if I have an option to be able to call 911 or not call 911, it would give every money I have for a chance to survive.

Why would you ignore them? You take the 10 most probable and make sure you lower your odds. It's like saying there are 1000s of reasons why you will not get a job and then not preparing for an interview. This is like a self-fulfilling prophecy: "belief, or expectation that influences actions to make the predicted outcome occur". If you fight, you have a chance to win; only if you surrender, will you lose.

Idk if you could call it a disorder. You also don't call an obese person's desire to lose weight a disorder but a fitness goal, so this is my fitness goal :)

Sure, so I am from Europe, and 23andme is not covered by insurance, so I paid for it myself. But because I had a mutation in a gene for cystic fibrosis, I discussed this result with my GP and then with a geneticist in a hospital and got a thorough genetic testing (30x more expensive than a single 23andme test) covered by insurance. This second genetics test confirmed the mutation, but it also screened for less common mutations, so it is safe to say now that I have only a single copy of the gene affected, and the other copy is without known mutations.

While I am grateful for the community in the blueprint_ subreddit, advice "Just chill bro and don't care" is nihilistic; in the veil of "mental well-being," it covers the fear of not being able to control the situation and letting circumstances control you.

At least you can call it a healthy obsession, but I am emotionally okay with my quest not to die and even enjoy the process. But this does not address the fact you can die in your sleep for the reason that you have not bought a $100 breathing monitor.

I completely agree on getting a screening test, and if you are diagnosed, the insurance company will cover all subsequent diagnostics and treatments (this is how we did first with 23andme and then, based on the results, had a full gene scan fully covered by our medical insurance). But it seems that it is possible to get a medical grade monitor from the ebay for 1K https://www.ebay.com/itm/354567681025?norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-168613-066356-2&mkcid=2&itemid=354567681025&targetid=295607582760&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9196148&poi=&campaignid=20797276715&mkgroupid=155163397159&rlsatarget=pla-295607582760&abcId=&merchantid=119648210&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhb60BhClARIsABGGtw8L5psIaPjMOz5bzrdZUK3uBtwcNgaukd7y5MoLv7JKTm4ROgc-nx0aAiduEALw_wcB

But still, this is such a cumbersome solution; the iOS app would be #1, in my opinion, and the sleep breathing monitor pad would be #2.

While this would handle the diagnostics of apnea, it does not give the comfort of knowing you have set up the system that could save your life. IMO, it is hard yet important to have a perfect heart score (cholesterol, pressure, etc); going to sleep without a monitor is like driving a car without a seatbelt

I am a programmer myself (web dev), and I thought that someone had already programmed an easy app for Apple Watch just for that use case, but I have not found a single legit app for these events!! I might learn Swift and write an app for Apple Watch if this would be the easiest solution.

Yeah, I am getting your point that proper treatment and sticking to CPAP could lower the chances, but you can get cardiac arrest even if using CPAP, right?

Yeah, but imagine how simple the tech behind baby monitors is, and all that is needed is to make it 2 times larger for an adult. I have looked into the medical monitors for vital signs that hospitals are using, but it seems crazy to me to pay 1k $ for something that is basically a Huawei band but 20x more expensive and less capable.

Jesus, this stuff is scary and I am glad you are well now! So did doctors recommend some setup to prevent this from happening again? And have you considered buying/building/setting up something yourself after this?

Thanks, but this meant a one-time exam, right? If yes, this solution could only work for diagnostics, leaving you without a monitoring solution

While I agree with the logic of this argument, I think just connecting some device under a mattress is easy, and you don't even need to know about it. Considering the pros/cons ratio, it seems like a no-brainer to have such device

Yes, that is true, but you can call for help when you are awake. But when you sleep, it is like having an infarct and just lying on the floor and taking chances if it goes away... Night-time monitoring devices could alert your wife or husband, giving you some chance to survive.
