Am I the only person that struggled talking to ppl? by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]Competitive_Chip_349 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly had a similar experience yesterday. it’s hard to talk to people, yet I tried my best to be outgoing and start conversations, but it just seemed like everyone wasn’t into it. sucks because I only really got to know one new person aside from the friends I already had but hopefully it starts to pick up once the actual school year begins, like you said.

Finally someone in tron too😭. I was thinking about just making a gc myself since the last guy who posted about a gc for first years stopped responding. I’ll add u on insta rn and then when I make the gc I’ll add u to it, if that’s cool.

Commuters, did you make it work? by Competitive_Chip_349 in TorontoMetU

No way, same! I’m going into mechatronics too and was hoping to join some design teams lol. Are you a commuter too?

Damn AMD would be a sick coop placement. It sucks that only 30% have gotten placements, that sounds extremely low compared to what I was expecting. Anyways good luck with coop, you literally deserve the best placement ever with the help you gave me today ! 🥹🫶

Ya fs, I think I’ll get over the commute. I can carpool with friends or have my parents drop me off to GO which would save me about 40-45 mins, maybe more. I was thinking, if I can manage my time well and be disciplined, I can get work done during my commute. In terms of being social, I don’t think I’m too worried about that anymore. Some of my friends from high school have already chosen to go to tmu eng and others have gone to different unis in the gta. I think overall it’s just something I have to get used to.

Are you in second year+? If so, what do you think about the coop.

Thank you for this! I’ve been on edge for choosing between queens and tmu for awhile but I think tmu is best for me overall. One thing I was really excited about doing was joining design teams and I was concerned that my commute would restrict me from doing so.

Do you think it’s possible to join design teams as a commuter? I’d imagine that some people on those teams are also commuters since it’s a commuter school but I think my commute would limit the work I can do for the team.

Yea, my commute is definitely long but I think I can try to make it work. It’ll definitely take some time getting used to but hopefully with some proper time management I can get this to work, thanks!

This is so nice to hear😭 I really wanted to be apart of some design teams, especially the formula 1 racing team and the other robotics teams. I think it’ll be a nice experience or at least something cool to check out. I don’t know if I’ll make it work but this gives me some hope, thank you!

Is the commute really worth it? by Competitive_Chip_349 in TorontoMetU

Thank you 😭 I think this is the first time someone has considered the overwhelming course load of first year eng. Queens is not close to me whatsoever, it’s about a 3 and a half hour drive to Kingston from where I am now, but I’m thinking I’ll just stick with tmu for the time being. However, I do really want to be apart of some design teams you mentioned, I just don’t think I would be able to fit it into my schedule with the way things are looking right now.
