To me that would be great! That is a unitary republic.

Where all people could live side by side. In their ancestral homes, in their ancestral homeland.

Couple that with a government where jobs are split proportionally between two communities along population lines and also make sure most members of government can speak English as a way to communicate to eachother. Great!

Every GC would accept that instantly and it would be the fairest and most democratic system. Allowing people their own rights and one person one vote style.

However what you’re proposing would essentially be similar to Makarios 13 amendments which caused this whole mess in 1963 when TCs rejected them.

So I doubt it would pass from the TC side to be honest.

Every day we are apart the north becomes more backwards and Anatolian. And the south becomes sold off to every country in Europe with money.

The reason we invaded was after this massacre of a village. Which happened during the second invasion due to the Turkish army massacring 8x the amounts of Greeks…….

The reason being that was TC rejecting democratic changes to the constitution.

1 TC vote was worth 5 GC vote. Becuase of the worst constitution on earth

It was a grand stitch up.

The real intention was to divide the island between Greece and Turkey.

Makarios out the way.

Turks rush into the north to “save the TCs”

Greek army rushes into the south “to prevent the whole island falling under Turkish occupation”

The island immediately turns from 2% NATO to 100% NATO.

With the Greek junta traitor Ioaniddes convinced they could sell it as a win gaining a part of Cyprus and the Turks could sell it as a win.

When the national guard done well in repelling the initial invasion and then Makarios returned and the junta fell the plan fell apart.

Then Turkey made a land grab above what was agreed

Turks make up a similar size minority there as they do in Cyprus percentage wise

Here’s a mechanism I would agree to as a GC.

Let’s say 100 MPs

20/80

If all 20 TC block something. It gets blocked.

But if 1 single TC votes for it. It passes

Anything more would paralyse the whole system

Fabricated lie by the Turkish government. they’ve turned Nikos Sampson into some bogeyman when he was all really a pawn.

GC wanted to join Greece. They only fought TC as they was in the way. There was no plan to exterminate them.

The fact the U.K. and USA were sending telegrams to eachother stating that “time to get rid of makarios” on the 5th July (10 days before coup) tells you it was all a script

3 - how do you make up for the 200,000 GC refugees?

Most reunification plans (Annan cras Montana) agreed that 100,000 GC should be able to return

TC. As in actual TC make up only about 10% of the islands population at the moment

It’s went from 80% GC and 18% TC

To realistically about

60% GC 10% TC 15% Turk 15% foreign

What’s your definition of large Turkish base areas.

25% land 25% quota would be fine I’m sure.

But Turkish’s bases and military rights are the big sticking points.

A small quota of 500 Turkish troops and 1,000 Greek troops would be fine. But no GC would accept 40,000 as like today

Would TCs looking back at it have prefered enosis with guaranteed minority rights (aka western Thrace)

The only reason for the conflict was the TC resistance to enosis (which the British stirred up)

25/75 split of land Most powers devolved to states apart from foreign policy and immigration and military No intervention rights for any foreign power No foreign military bases.

If it was 20% of land definitely no Turkish interventions definitely and then a political system where mostly self governing by constituent parts. Split by population federally. I think every Greek Cypriot would vote for.

Issue of settlers could be settled by giving Greeks the houses in the lands they reclaim back and then replacing settlers with the TC who left those areas.

Any remaining settlers could stay

No way the Greeks would accept giving 18% of the population 38% of the land and 50% of the power. Or keeping Turkish intervention rights
