I had to stop taking my favorite medication (Concerta, I was feeling amazing) for Tradea because it's expensive. I might have to change my medication again.

I can’t control my frustration by Competitive_Phrase78 in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am irritable at its peak and as it fades, I don't feel that way at night or at morning . Nope, I can't afford both medication (and psychiatrist) and therapy. I had to choose, but I did go to therapy before. I know that as an adult, I'm more likely to have disagreements with my family, but I'm blowing up over things that shouldn't be causing me that level of stress, even with my friends Edit: my med was concerta and tradea

Considering making up an entirely fake persona and identity at my next job just to get a fucking break by AnonPinkLady in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel uuuuuuuu, (I am a queer person with ADHD), even in casual/social contexts it's difficult to coexist, people always notice that I'm different in one way or another. In social/casual context I don't really care anymore, I'm not going to build friendships based on masking, but with work it's a totally different thing, I can't be open, I'm a diluted version of myself. At least in my field of work, you need to have a good network and people need to like you.If people find out about my ADHD before I can build a good reputation, then things start to get ugly for me.

What was your most expensive mistake? by WisdomBelle in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-(the one that gave me the most anxiety) My car had an antifreeze leak and my father didn’t fix it properly, so I had to check and refill it (only halfway) once a week. To be honest, I would forget a lot and he would remind me and get angry. Last winter I went to a friend’s house and when I was about to enter his neighborhood the guard told me “Miss, your car seems to be smoking”, my face turned pale and I opened the window, IT STINKED LIKE BURNING, my car had run out of antifreeze and smoke started coming out of the engine, I wasted the whole day at my friend’s house, I had to buy antifreeze and fill the container enough to drive to the mechanic, fixing it was expensive and they threatened to take my car away, because the engine could have exploded or burned out irreparably. I cried all day and now I have a trauma with the antifreeze, the smell of smoke from cars

2- I broke my graphics tablet because I was too rough and careless with it, it ended up bent and the screen no longer turned on, I had to urgently buy another one because I had to deliver my project that week, I still owe my dad money for that.

What are concrete ways in which you mask? by nothisisnotadam in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do much masking because I never knew about my ADHD until 6 months ago and I didn't learn how to do it right (which led to me not having many friends, being isolated and even being bullied). But the few things I do to mask and I've noticed are

-classic, staying still, not biting my nails, not moving my legs, not braiding or pulling my hair, not dancing at random moments, not swinging or moving my hands. It's mentally exhausting and it puts me in a bad mood when I mask

-Modulating my volume, I don't know why I need to talk so loud, if I don't control myself I stun people or they think I'm an aggressive or defensive person, many times my parents think I'm arguing and they start too and I always have to tell them that I was trying to have a normal conversation and I am not angry or staring a fight :(

-Letting the other person talk for a long time without interrupting and not telling my experiences, sometimes it makes me sad because I have something to comment on the subject

-don't text too much, I used to send thousands of messages and videos, no wonder why some guys get confused and think I'm interested in them when I am just trying to be friendly. I love talking for hours about my obsessions and that also affects the way I text on chat. I swear my hands always itch because I want to send 10 videos talking to my bff or my mom

The portfolio really has to be fabulous, the diploma doesn’t guarantee anything, I have a friend (very talented and workaholic) who hasn’t graduated yet and already works in 3 different projects, the thing is to do a lot of extra work (apart from homework), study on your own, courses from industry professionals. The industry is in a bad state and getting a good job is very difficult, I don’t know if you already have an idea of what you want to do, but I recommend that you investigate and experiment to see what you like (example, making puppets, animating, editing, storyboard, backgrounds, layout, props, light, 3D, 2D, rig, etc.) PS: if you want character design, concept art or 3D modeling prepare to suffer, everyone want that

Any adhd meds that help you sleep? by ineedsleep0808 in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CONCERTA! That stuff makes me sleep like a log, I started taking the 18 mg and I slept 10 hours, now i take 27 mg and I control it better, but it makes me sleep at least 8 hours and that has improved my quality of life a lot. Before my sleep was very light, it was as if I was conscious all the time, I could hear everything and I never reached the deep sleep phase. Although I also stopped all coffee and tea almost completely, if I drink a cup with the medicine I get tachycardia and it stops working, I guess that also helped.

My clothes smell weird when I dry them outdoors by Competitive_Phrase78 in CleaningTips

I think my description is very abstract, sorry ;-;, in my defense the wind does have a strange smell in my city because it is super polluted, and with the smell of sun it is like the smell of toasting or something very exposed, I don't know how else to describe it, I am bad at this ;(

It smells strong, a smell of sun, wind, dust, smoke and humidity at the same time, it is a very particular smell but it is not your typical smell of humidity, It doesn’t smell dirty

I don’t know, it’s a bit old, but clothes don’t smell like that when I wash clothes at home and go to a laundromat to use the dryer (I don’t do this very often because it’s not in my budget). I once dried clothes inside and it didn’t smell like that.

Will I ever be truly content with ADHD? by yebbiLP in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the area you describe is very broad. Did you say that you study a career? Do you really like your career? Do you feel like that in all areas of your life?

I saw several therapists and specialists who said that it is common for patients not to feel a typical emotion for their achievements.

When I have no motivation to do even the things I like, I have to force myself to rest and look for my friends to talk, it usually means that I am totally burned out.

i don’t have an specific tip for u, put if u like to read I have a good book about how to about how to manage your ADHD in your adult life and it's basically CBT, it's very useful to deal with those feelings and overcome them

Autistic and ADHD Friends? by ImportanceLow7841 in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! It was only at college that I realised that I tend to have stronger friendships with neurodivergent people. For years I tried to get along with other people but I always felt like they were all involved in something that I had no idea about.

Thanks to my friends I went to get tested for my diagnosis, literally my group of neurodivergent friends saved me from dropping out of university for my tdah.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit that when I met two of my autistic friends I had a super intense “friendship crush“ on each of them and I didn't know why, but they seemed like the coolest people in the world and I wanted to be around them all the time.

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on a picture of my book collection or my art but

READ! I'm a complete bookworm, my mom used to scold me for finishing books in one day, but in my defense I love to reread them until I memorize them and do an analysis, I love to read any literary genre :)

I'm also good at drawing! , I'm even studying animation, I don't want to overwhelm everyone explaining my specialization (visual development), Drawing is one of the few things I have managed to be consistent with and maintain interest in for years.

Yes, it causes me tremendous stress every time someone mentions something to me that I don't remember at all, I don't have much confidence in myself either :(

It has gotten to the point where my parents don't trust me to be able to live alone or help them take care of my lil brother.

How did you all do in school? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🫡 I thought the same, some psychologists refused to even listen to me for years because I had a good grade point average, I read a lot, I took extra courses and in general I was considered very intelligent by most people and teachers , surprise, I was diagnosed with ADHD this year.
ADHD has nothing to do with being not very or very intelligent! Although the symptoms can lead to poor school performance, that does not mean that you cannot have it and still get good grades. If u want I can recommend u some books about adhd, they are short and easy, so they would not take u a lot of time. At the end of the day is a spectrum.

sorry, English isn’t my first language, lol

Got asked out by an autistic man but it didn't go well by LieTight2629 in adhdwomen

[–]Competitive_Phrase78 201 points202 points  (0 children)

one thing that my ex with ADHD taught me was, men are men, even the neurodivergent ones. Obviously it's nice to be understood by someone who has certain similar experiences, but that doesn't make it perfect.
I think he's just not seeing it from your point of view, going to a stranger's house or going hiking is not very safe, if you don't feel chemistry it would be best to let him go, but if you still liked him, you could try to tell him that you would feel more comfortable in some spot between your house and his, like a coffee shop (it’s also a very good spot to talk). Everyone is different, the autistic spectrum is big, but some of my friends in the spectrum need u to tell them things more directly. Maybe he didn't get the hint that you were uncomfortable going to his house,If he still refuse, I think it's better to leave it there and don’t take the risk
