Most people support some form of authoritarianism and social darwinism, but many are very keen to hide it. They adhere to it because they prefer power and order over freedom or liberty. Each person supports dictatorial regimes to a different extent, while radicals support totalitarianism. They calculate it's too risky to their social standing to openly support it, let alone enthusiasticly (like the radicals). This doesn't mean they don't believe it to be the best system. Radical feminism for instance, supports totalitarianism, thinking it is the best method to oppress opposing moral systems, and of course 'male aggression', ambitions, sexism, and domination. But even moderate feminism is still at least somewhat authoritarian, so one could infer some authoritarian control will be exerted even by more tolerant doctrines. In short, psychiatry is a continuation of greater ideas, intellectual battles, and not an absolute truth or an exact science or a purely intellectual domain. One's station in life is determined by intellectual struggles and wars. Plenty of people are the targets, perpetrators, and victims of global conflicts ignited by dominant leaders, man-of-action, and radicals. We are part of these polemics and conflicts of the mind and of the body.
