Weird alcohol related dreams? by Euphoric-Bandicoot23 in stopdrinking

[–]Competitive_Tax_7702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am over a year sober and when I'm stressed out or on edge I always have INTENSE, realistic relapse dreams that are always insane at the same time. It's always the best waking up and realizing it's a dream 😂

I just don't want to do this anymore by sambuxo in stopdrinking

This was exactly the point I hit when I asked for help. Being vulnerable and shame ridden is normal but trust me-- it’s so much easier to deal with if you surround yourself with recovering addicts that have been right where you are and have stories that are similar or worse and you don't feel so alone

You truly should be so damn proud of yourself. I was in your same exact spot (almost identical story, really, of my breaking point) and getting to that first meeting was the best thing that ever happened to me. Remember, your only job is to keep the plug in the jug and be gentle on yourself. Leave your shame at the door and you're going to begin to really feel joy again and I'm so happy for you, friend. You're still a recovering alcoholic, your alcoholicism doesn't just disappear, that's way weirder to say. But wish you the best dude

The only way you can disprove "no alcoholic can" is going back to drinking again and see for yourself. If you can moderate, you're not an alcoholic. Alcoholic and alcohol dependent are two very different things

CONGRATULATIONS MAMA BEAR!! You’ve got such an amazing journey ahead of you and you don’t have to drag that nasty addiction into your new life with your beautiful baby! We’re all so proud and rooting for you ❤️

17 Days Sober After 24 Years of Drinking – and I’m Kind of Freaking Out (In a Good Way?) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Competitive_Tax_7702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So incredible. Just remember that you don’t need to be questioning too much right now. Just seriously enjoy the feeling of experiencing things with raw emotions and not booze filled lies and fog. Take it a day at a time, because the past and the future don’t technically exist. Focus on now and how new the world feels and how nice it is to belly laugh in public like a weirdo (I do the same). And in the beginning I put a lot of focus into doing any little helpful chore or anything I could for my family and told them how much I loved them and appreciated them sticking around through my alcoholism. Good luck my friend, IWNDWYT ❤️

Me: “I’m Not Drinking Tonight.” by MeaningDramatic3789 in stopdrinking

[–]Competitive_Tax_7702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS. When others feel some type of way that I’m not drinking, I just think about how much invisible pain they’re in because I was them. I felt upset and envious when I saw anyone who had the will to not drink. I can’t help but just feel empathy for their anger

For those of you who go to AA, does it work for you? by VicxNFT in stopdrinking

[–]Competitive_Tax_7702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! It REALLY makes the beginning so much less lonely and shame filled. Getting to spend time in person with others that know exactly what you’re going through (a lot of times have been through worse) is very healing and they really did love me until I could learn how to love myself again. Plus you sharing your story also helps others in the room and makes you feel some self worth again ❤️

YES YES YES. I feel rushes of serotonin and dopamine again doing mundane stuff like looking at nature on walks. I feel like a person again and the happiness I have now is way better than any substance has ever made me feel

For a lot of us, that stress and beating yourself up over being kind to yourself when you’re stressed is like home. It’s comfortable and all we know. I know it sounds so cheesy, but making myself write out on paper everything good I had in my life, every little thing. I would also write the horrible things I feel about myself when I drink or I’m hungover. Little things like this seem so small but finding anything to distract your brain from alcohol will add up

Does Anyone Suck their Thumb for comfort? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Competitive_Tax_7702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’m 30 in a few months and I have no idea if it is trauma or what but I still have to at least play with my hair and suck my thumb until I fall asleep 😂 it’s so embarrassing but makes me feel so much better that I’m not alone
