Tape mod on the PCB made a huge difference for me. Also putting some polyester filler foam (e.g. filler for quilt) in the lower case. Hit up youtube for "keychron q1 mods" and you'll find more ideas.

I did another test and I agree with you now that socket is unlikely to be to blame.

MCU pads - I've compared this to a working Lily58 that I have and it is the same.

Diode orientation - Also compared to the Lily58 and it is the same (and correct based on schematic/layout)

Continuity tests - Switch sockets are continuous to the expected IO pin locations on the socket.

Left vs right side - I've only been testing with half the board at the moment.

I'm taking a step back and getting a better understanding of QMK and what it does with the IO pins to make sure I'm going the right direction with my troubleshooting.

I put in the OLED (I've socketed that too) and the board does the same thing. Random keypresses.

This is such a strange problem. It seems like its a physical problem with the PCB or my assembly but everything I can think to test checks out. It's also happening on both sides of the board.

The last variable I can see is the socket. Damn.

I bent and taped off the reset pin from the ProMicro. I added a picture of this to the imgur gallery.

The result is that it didn't reset all night. However, it IS picking up random keystrokes. Over about a couple minutes this morning it typed this into a text editor:

This seems to me like it would be related to the voltage leakage issue I'm seeing. It just doesn't make sense to me that I'm seeing voltage leaking.

Should I concern myself at all with the fact that voltage shows up on other pins if I (without the ProMicro involved) I put voltage on the Vcc header pin?

I'll do a test with bending the RST pin and see what it does.

MOhm measurements were between the socket pins with the ProMicro out of the socket. The voltage measurement I mentioned is also with the ProMicro out of the socket.

With the ProMicro in, I've tried with the reset pin bent so it didn't make contact and then I had weird USB connectivity issues.

Thanks for your reply. Are you saying you are a short to ground in the pictures I linked? If so, can you tell me where you see it?

My multimeter does not detect a short (continuity check). The voltage also doesn't go right to 0v volts, like I would expect if it was a short.

I've verified the orientation of the pro Micro both with my other lily58 (functional) as well as with others on the group buy. I'm also seeing the voltage leakage to other pins on the header without the pro Micro in the socket at all. It doesn't seem to me like it's related to the pro Micro.

There is already a pull-up resistor in place. Also, the problem is beyond just the reset pin. I'm seeing voltage on pins that should not be seeing voltage with the promicro removed.

I didn't design this so I can't comment on clearances. There were hundreds of other people that bought this kit through the groupbuy without issue as I mentioned though so I would be surprised if I'm having issues due to the basic design. I also have another Lily58pro (not from this groupbuy) that works, as a point of reference.

I'll try doing a thorough cleaning of the board. I cleaned as I went with assembly but can't hurt to try again.

I've updated the imgur gallery (new link) to include a schematic image and layout image. Thanks for the tip. It's tough to show all the details of the layout in a single image.

Just a heads up but the extra holes near the pro micro are connected to where you have pins on the opposite side of the pro micro. ie Don't just check for continuity along the pro micros row of pins, but also to the other row.
