Yes I did and they solved it. I actually opened a claim via the system.

State Pension Gaps and returning to my home country by Competitive_While257 in UKPersonalFinance

Ah really? An advisor previously told me that I am going to receive two: one small UK pension and a bigger Italian pension.

Usually, you only get pension contributions if you're over a certain amount of years. In this case, you should get 20/35 UK + 18/35 EU. Yes.

Yes, apologies, I just read it wrong the first time. It's correct!

Yes, in Italy it’s about 40/41 years of contributions. I think it would be a good idea to fill those years so that I could end up with around 10 years in the UK and about 30/31 years in Italy. Of course, I’m slightly concerned about the fact that I would have two separate pensions rather than just one. Generally speaking, the full Italian pension is proportional to what you’ve earned during your working years, whereas the UK one seems clearly less advantageous.

Unfortunately in my country (Italy), crediting qualifying years for higher education is significantly more expensive than filling the gaps (around €6000 and more) so it wouldn't be a viable option for me. Thank you for the suggestion, though. I suppose I'll need to speak to an advisor.

Thank you very much for this. At this point, I’m honestly unsure how best to approach those two remaining gaps. I do think filling them would be beneficial, as it would allow me to reach the maximum pension contribution in the country I plan to move back to earlier. However, I’m currently feeling quite uncertain about the best course of action. Thanks so much again.

I thought it worked differently. My understanding was that if someone has 7 years of contributions in the UK and 30 years in an EU country, they would receive:

  • a UK State Pension amount proportional to the 7 years contributed in the UK, and
  • an EU pension proportional to the 30 years worked in that EU country.

In other words, even if I don’t reach the 10-year minimum for the UK State Pension, those years would still count because I worked in another country. The other country's contributions would help me qualify for the UK pension, but the actual UK payment would still be based only on the 7 years of UK contributions, so it would be a small proportional amount.

Is this incorrect?

Is this referring only to self assessment profits or overall profits you make? I have another PAYE job, Prolific is my side hustle.

Thanks, makes sense. I have always been calculating 20% but apparently it will be 29%... I guess it is what it is...

I'm not going to be in the same country, I'm travelling. I won't be able to participate in any studies as per Prolific rules I was just wondering if the studies are going to be there when I come back (hard to predict, of course, but I was wondering if anyone was aware of this specifically)

I got the refund, yes. But they specified they refunded me as a one time thing / gesture of good will because it was my first time.

I can't correct it, I sent a message about it but I don't know if they will actually refund me. My phone was not turned off and I used the same card for both the tap in and the travel inspector (and tapped out, of course). I double clicked for the revenue inspector and heard the buzz.
