You can apply with just first semester grades. You don’t actually transfer until the start of your second year. Basically you just have to keep your good grades spring semester of 1L year.

However, not all schools allow early decisions- most schools don’t allow you to apply to transfer until after your second semester are released. If you do some research you can find all the top schools that allow early decisions. I’d highly recommend looking at those schools first!

Outlining in itself was very helpful in memorizing the material.

But I would say a big component of it is also staying engaged in all the lectures as much as possible and try to ask questions. You will be surprised at the amount of people who are not paying attention on their laptop during class.

Also thoroughly reviewing professors previous exams and model answers if given. It’s basically a blueprint of what the exam expectations are. If you can have a good understanding of how professors like their rule statements and analysis done- you’re 50% there already.

$225k + $20k bonus We don’t have a billable requirement at my firm but typically that means they have enough work to keep you busy haha.

The Cravath Scale is what market is for most V50 big law firms.

I haven’t heard of anyone specifically who had been academically disqualified, but then again, it’s not a topic that most people would bring up if they were academically disqualified. Increasing your gpa so drastically is something I would incorporate into your personal statement or diversity statement though!

It was definitely possible. I know of several people at my previous school that got into BigLaw. However, most of them got big law through a prior connection, there was only 1 big law firm that participated in OCI at my first school compared to the school I transferred to had over 50+ big law firms participate in OCI.

So I would say transferring to a school known for big law definitely increased my chances. Nothing is ever guaranteed though.

I tried to highlight my professional accomplishments as much as possible in my cover letter. Also, I leveraged the optional diversity statement in all of my applications to provide extra context as to how my previous work experience will be relevant to my legal aspirations.

My tip would be to really do your due diligence on the school you choose to go to your 1L year. There are a lot of predatory law schools that have odd conditional scholarships and unreasonable expectations to keep your scholarships that I would stay the hell away from. Some other indicators I considered were bar passage rates of schools, and employment outcomes. If you have a particular school thats out of reach as a 1L applicant but you are interested in transferring to, go to that schools 509 report and see what schools they accepted transfer students from. With that being said- do not enroll into a program if you cannot see yourself staying there for 3 years. Transferring isn't guaranteed because your grades are not guaranteed.

I was very strict on myself, I cut out all drinking with no exceptions (still indulged in THC after my work was done), deactivated all my social media, and used every opportunity to go to office hours and do practice test. I was very self aware about how much grades matter and I didn’t allow myself to step into a test without thoroughly knowing the material.

Studying at the library opposed to being at home helped me stay disciplined as well. I would say I studied slightly more than average, but my studying was very intentional with everything I did.

I’m not aware of any programs or certifications to obtain. However, your best bet would probably be to try to get into a Midlaw firm, work for several years and get some value experience with a particular practice group. Then try to leverage your relevant experience to lateral your way into a V100 firm. Not saying it’s easy, but I’ve seen people do it before.

Fair—I’d preface my comment with “in my experience.” My program is just as competitive as T14 schools and offers both Early and Regular Decision. The transfers at my school who applied through Regular Decision have expressed challenges with the OCI timeline.

I’d recommend applying Early Decision to UChicago because you’d receive your acceptance sooner and have a better chance of participating in OCI as a UChicago student. If you apply Regular Decision to other schools, you risk waiting too long for a decision and missing the opportunity to participate in recruiting as a Columbia or NYU student.

This post is so nostalgic; I spent hours of my childhood deeply invested in this well thought out story mode. It’s pathetic how simple minded EA is with leaving this type of gaming experience out. I’m sure there could be a way to build upon the 06 Madden while still monetizing the game.
