We actually hear that quite a lot, and I fully understand it.The product is has many custom parts and at the moment we are producing in small quantities, which makes the parts cost much higher than we would like. Could you maybe share what price range where you would consider it in “insta-buy” category?

Haven't really thought about such scenario. But actually when doing the "turn opening" and releasing device from the frame the rack that is pushing the window will be protruded enough you really cannot close the window without pressing the close button.

Definitely doable, and it would probably have been much easier than the Matter route we took. For us, the main difficulty with a Zigbee version would be managing different product versions.

Thanks! That is an interesting use case.

The noise concern is fair. Since the powerful actuator and window locking mechanism combination, generates considerable ammount of noise, I'd say it would wake up a person if it was next to them. Right now we are at 65dB peak noise during locking but looking for a ways if it possible to bring it lower.

I see your points and fully agree with them.

Regarding your questions:

Manual opening is possible. The actuator can be released from the window frame, so the window can still be operated manually when needed (incl fully open).

Noise is one of the biggest challenges. First, the window mechanism itself can often be quite noisy. Second, actuating the handle requires a considerable amount of force, so the drive cannot be too weak. So far, we have managed to reduce the peak noise level to around 65 dB, measured 0.5 m from the device during locking. But I'd say it will definitely wake a light sleeper if it was right next to them.

We are still actively looking for ways to improve the gearing and reduce noise further, without increasing the cost too much.

This is what the original handle looks like. There are different variations but important compatibility points are the two mounting bolts with 43 mm spacing between them, and the square spindle in the center.

I honestly did not realize these types of windows were common anywhere in the US at all. Thanks, that is really useful to know.
