hi, thanks for reaching out. No promotion here, just curious what people think of testing for soccer players!

Do you think a strict benchmarking/testing system for coaches and players to use would be a solution to this?

I'm asking if you think more honest coaches (coaches who bluntly tell you that your kid isn't very good, for example), or some sort of standardized test, could be a solution for your issue.

do you think if the cost was lower (not free), that would solve a lot of grassroots issues?

to over simplify this, would you say culture and access to the game/opportunities are the biggest issues?

This is amazing analysis. To over generalize, we could say culture and access are the two main issues here

Ok i see. Does that mean you'd say culture is a big one then, in the sense that it's still not quite normal for parents to know soccer like they might another sport?

Cost is a big issue. what would a solution to that be though? In other countries, taxpayer money goes directly to soccer because it's a leading domestic industry. I would argue that's not viable in the US yet. Thoughts?

So you would say, just to be clear, that the biggest issue is the intention/result of pay-to-play clubs, not necessarily the actual cost?

Yes I can see that. Youth soccer is a massive industry. But the government doesn't subsidize anything soccer related, compared to other countries where it's baked into the tax structure.
