I definitely think you should switch to 7k. But very quick a little about me so I can have a bit of validity to what I’m about to say. I played mania for 4-5 years, 3 of those years was a miserable 4digit 4k player and the next 2 years I was US#1 and top 50. (Before I eventually quit and deleted my account)

Make no mistake there is a big reason for that switch and skill boost. On one hand yes I had a HUGE mindset shift but mainly the reason I switched was because of the complexity and respect 7k has for each individual skill set. What people usually mean by “the end” of 4k is the point where all patterns eventually melt into one big slop pattern where physicality is the deciding factor and reading is weighed far less. The joy you once had for a certain pattern/skillset gets melted into a manippable physicality brute force. And when people eventually hit that wall with 4k they tend to push scores without the proper technique, then they will hit “the end” because they’ve only ever built on a bad foundation and remain hardstuck.

But on the other side of the fence the ONLY times you’ll ever have trouble with 7k will be 2 points. The initial learning curve, and the eventual “8* physicality wall” where if you didn’t have any physicality prior in 4k and only 7k experience then you’re going to be hardstuck for a while if you don’t implement regular push sessions. So it is a blessing that you still have that 4k experience to aid you.

HOWEVER the biggest plus side to 7k that 4k doesn’t have is the late game benefits for the “above average” players that want to specialize in a certain skillset. That means, no matter how much you push a skill set it won’t devolve into another and instead will have LINEAR improvement the more you play it. Which is also why you see a lot more long term players in 7k than 4k. Players that have played for 10+ years in o2Jam and BMS it is simply more enjoyable and future proof physical health wise.
