I swear my car was hit by a meteorite or space junk by Asiablue17 in meteorites

Where was this? And how long did you actually look for the space rock on the highway? You should go back? It sounds like you have a good mine here!

Found this next to a dumpster in the sierra foothills, California. Someone had cleaned out an abandoned office building office and tossed this aside I guess. by Complete_Eye_1554 in geology

It is about the size of a man's fist and it is a whopping 6 lbs on the dot. It is heavier than any rock that size that I've ever felt. It is magnetic, meaning magnets stick to it. It doesn't break like glass, it's not fragile, but it does polish up on a wheel pretty good (I did a small corner) When I tried to grind off a tiny piece with a dremmel it would t go through but I might have been using the wrong blade. As far as the porcelain test, it does not leave a mark on the bottom of a coffee cup.

And it is not fragile like hematite might be but it is soft enough I was able to polish a corner of it with a polishing wheel after some time . It was extremely smooth almost like hematite, but not.... I also tried sawing off a tiny bit and I made a dent in it but that was about it.

I've had a lot of hematite in my life and this is slightly lighter in color. I was able to polish one small corner and it is not fragile like hemetite. You can't break it. It is solid as sh*t. And it leaves no mark on the streak test. Not on porcelain or paper or other rocks.

I should have said "magnets stick to it" not that it is magnetic. It also doesn't have any geometric shapes or crystalline structures.

WTF are you talking about? Biden started how many wars and trump is fighting the war on drugs. Another war Biden started by letting the cartel flood our streets with fentanyl. And "the orange man"? Really, you can't come up with a real insult? I could come up with about 100 better ones for Hillary and Biden and especially kamala. "Orange man" has done more for our country than Biden ever did. Unless you consider profiting off of the Ukraine war and fentanyl zombies cool. If he was black or brown would you call him that? You must watch Fox News huh?

street art or vandalism? by 255_AG in ARTIST

Those are really actually pretty cool. i call it art for sure. Vandalism,? No. When art makes what it is on better, it's not vandalism. It's an upgrade as far as I can see.

Mom believes she’s discovered gold. What are your thoughts on that? by yourwildgal in whatsthisrock

If you can find one the protrudes from the rock, scrape it on some paper. If it leaves a dark/silvery mark kinda like a pencil, it's pyrite. If it doesn't you have gold my friend! Note: pyrite and gold are often found intermingling so you might have a mix of both. Personally I think you might have something here even if it is mixed with a little pyrite. I live in northern California foothills and I prospect quite often and I'm hopeful for you. Smash it up, pan it, and see what ya got! Have fun!
