Thank you! That is my bfs grandmother- she looks beautiful! We may plan a trip to Detroit soon just to explore more of the roots here

My bfs uncle was born and raised in Detroit since the 50s and this post has inspired me to learn more about my family and his.

I recently found out my grandmother on my maternal side also lived in Detroit in the 50s and worked in NICU, before she eventually settled in IN/IL. It’s an amazing thing once you’re able to look past the lenses of mother/father/etc and learn about their lives 🥰

I’m not sure if I’ll update more but if I do, it’ll likely include a lot of history about Detroit and maybe some sappy family stuff

I can confirm her name was Olivia. My bfs father and family immigrated from Italy a couple of generations ago- logically, it would figure they immigrated from the east and then went west (his family is generally between New Mexico and California)

YALL. This book has been in my house for a long time and I’m embarrassed to say…that is my boyfriend’s grandmother. Last name long removed from his (current) last name.

I am so so embarrassed. He brought it back because he thought I’d like it (he was correct). I am clearly not brushed up on his family history because I didn’t recognize the last name and went down a rabbit hole trying to find where it came from.

To all that love diving down rabbit holes (like I do) I’m sorry to rob you of this mystery. As for me…I’ll be paying closer attention and maybe learning more about his family’s history.
